It&#8217;s another mild day that has us all in a full blown case of spring fever and the mild looks to hang on into Thursday. After this, we watch for the increasing potential for thunderstorms to move into the region. This kicks off another active pattern likely to carry us into next week. That&#8217;s when a fight between winter and spring takes place.<\/p>\n<p>Before I get to all that, the numbers for February are in. This turned out to be the coldest February in decades for the country&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The February contiguous U.S. average temperature was 30.6\u00b0F, 3.2\u00b0F below average \u2014 the 19th coldest February on record and the coldest February since 1989. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Mh3WFhODzX\">https:\/\/t.co\/Mh3WFhODzX<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/StateOfClimate?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#StateOfClimate<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hts1Tzrn5b\">pic.twitter.com\/hts1Tzrn5b<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NOAA NCEI Climate (@NOAANCEIclimate) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NOAANCEIclimate\/status\/1369317911014309896?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 9, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Temps out there today will generally range from the upper 60s to low 70s as southwest winds begin to gust up. These winds will increase as we head into Thursday and could boost temps close to 75 in some areas. Some higher gusts will be possible Thursday night and early Friday as a cold front drops in from the northwest. 40mph gusts will be possible&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/NAM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48231\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/NAM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"968\" height=\"759\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/NAM.png 968w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/NAM-300x235.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/NAM-768x602.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 968px) 100vw, 968px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Showers and thunderstorms will be common Thursday night into early Friday. This action may slow down a bit, but returns Friday night into the first part of Saturday as the front checks up on top of us&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/GFS-4.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48233\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/GFS-4.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cooler air\u00a0 comes in behind this for the weekend as we watch a big storm system spin to our west.
