It’s an absolutely fantastic 4th of July holiday weekend across Kentucky and surrounding areas. This awesome brand of air is courtesy of a pattern that really remains remarkably consistent in bringing cold fronts through here. As I look longer range… I see more cold fronts (Channeling the kid from The Sixth Sense).

Our day starts with temps deep into the 50s and some areas will be near a record low. Lexington’s record for the day is 53 from 1924, but I think we come up a few degrees shy of that. By the afternoon, it’s a sun-splashed sky with temps in the upper 70s across central and eastern Kentucky with low 80s west. Low humidity levels make for a perfect day to be outdoors.

The 4th sees temps start to creep back up into the 80s, but it’s still very nice out there. There is a chance for a late shower or storm developing across the eastern half of the state. The Hi Res NAM has the best chance in the far east…

The GFS is a little lighter and a smidge farther west…

The Canadian tries to spoil a cookout all the way back into central Kentucky…

That will be interesting to track.

Hurricane Elsa is barreling through the Caribbean right now and may eventually threaten Florida. Here’s the latest information and track forecast from the National Hurricane Center…

The GFS continues to be the most consistent model with Elsa and the overall pattern. The model continues to drift farther west with the track and shows more of an interaction with a front dropping into our region…

That’s certainly getting closer to bringing more of a direct impact into our region, but we are a long way from knowing that for sure. Regardless, the front dropping in here is real and so is the one right behind it…

Those are two nice troughs working through our part of the world and something the EURO is also seeing…

Betting on prolonged heat this summer seems to be a bad idea as our tame temp summer rolls on.
