We have a more normal temperate pattern settling into the region today and that carries us into the state of Thanksgiving Weekend. From there, it&#8217;s all eyes on a big storm system for the holiday weekend. One that is still a work in progress.<\/p>\n<p>Before we look ahead, let&#8217;s look at an impressive cold weather stat&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It was the third straight morning with temps as low as 10 degrees across the state. Here are the Top 10 coldest numbers from the Kentucky Mesonet. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/kywx?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#kywx<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9ZaUwqjryT\">pic.twitter.com\/9ZaUwqjryT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Chris Bailey (@Kentuckyweather) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Kentuckyweather\/status\/1594735333308088324?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 21, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s incredibly hard to do in the middle of November and with a bare ground.<\/p>\n<p>Normal temps are in the 50s and that&#8217;s where we hang out for much of the next several days. That bodes well for early holiday travelers.<\/p>\n<p>The timing of the Thanksgiving Weekend storm system continues to be fluid. I&#8217;m now hedging toward two impacts with a lighter one for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, with the main storm arriving over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>I like what the Canadian is doing&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Canadian-2-12.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-55931\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Canadian-2-12.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Notice how it sends one round of showers at us late Thursday into Friday then brings a big storm system in here a few days later with colder air following&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Canadian-34.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-55932\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Canadian-34.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The GFS was actually the first to sniff out this scenario, so I give it props to that. However, now we are seeing the model biases coming into play as it&#8217;s too progressive and not strong enough with the storm&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/GFS-46.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-55930\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/GFS-46.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/GFS-2-23.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-55929\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/GFS-2-23.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll update all that later today in my next post and on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm.<\/p>\n<p>BTW&#8230; Some serious blocking is likely to show up in December and that could mean a severe period of cold for our region. The signs are there and those match many of my winter forecast analog years.<\/p>\n<p>See you guys a little later.
