Colder winds are blowing out there tonight as a few rain and snow showers press in. This opens up the flood gates for a harsh winter pattern taking hold over the next few weeks, at least.<\/p>\n<p>The system moving in from the northwest tonight will bring an uptick in scattered rain and snow showers. A touch of sleet may also be noted, but this doesn&#8217;t look like a huge deal. I&#8217;m wondering if we can get a late night rooftop duster in a few spots? Hmm.<\/p>\n<p>Here are your radars to follow this system into Kentucky\u2026<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/builder.zoomradar.net\/zoomradar_weather_map\/weather_page.php?key=dlFZs5IY4VCw7bK\" width=\"560\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" seamless=\"seamless\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/radar-large.asp?partner=netweather&amp;traveler=0&amp;site=KY_&amp;type=SIR&amp;anim=1&amp;level=state&amp;large=1#\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"jetpack-lazy-image jetpack-lazy-image--handled lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/sirocco.accuweather.com\/nx_mosaic_640x480_public\/sir\/inmaSIRKY_.gif\" alt=\"\" usemap=\"#largemap\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sirocco.accuweather.com\/nx_mosaic_640x480_public\/sir\/inmaSIRKY_.gif\" data-lazy-loaded=\"1\" \/><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That system pulls away early Friday with upper 30s to around 40 with winds making it feel colder. Another system then brings some snow showers and flurries back in here Friday night and Saturday. The future radar from the HRRR continues to pick up on this very well. This animation goes from 1pm Friday through 1pm Saturday&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/hrrr-4.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-56750\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/hrrr-4.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We continue to see some model disagreement on the system early next week. The GFS continues to be aggressive with a period of light snow late Monday and Tuesday&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/GFS-38.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-56752\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/GFS-38.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The EURO doesn&#8217;t see that at all and shears this system apart much quicker&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/EURO-33.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-56748\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/EURO-33.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Regardless, both models continue to trend toward a major eastern US winter storm by next Thursday and Friday. They go about things just a touch differently, but from a week away, we are seeing really good model agreement on this big ticket storm signal.<\/p>\n<p>The GFS is back to a blizzard in the east&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/GFS-2-17.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-56751\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/GFS-2-17.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s not too dissimilar to last night&#8217;s EURO that went crazy with this storm. The new EURO isn&#8217;t to that extreme, but has a similar look and theme&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/EURO-2-13.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-56747\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/EURO-2-13.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Again, I have no changes to my thought on next week. The threat for a major winter storm in the eastern US is there and it will be followed by bitterly cold air for Christmas weekend. The potential to make a run at 0 or below is there for the holiday weekend.
