We continue to track a major wind maker rolling across the region today. Once this blows through, we turn our attention to a storm system for the weekend that can deliver a glancing blow of snow to southeastern Kentucky by Sunday.

Winds today may peak near 50mph at times as low pressure winds up to our west and north. Gusty showers and a rumble of thunder will be with us this morning before exiting eastern Kentucky by early this afternoon.

Here are your regional radars to follow the showers and storms…

Temps ahead of this front are deep into the 60s. Temps behind the front drop into the 40s.

Friday into Saturday continue to look like nice for the entire region as our storm system takes the southern route. This storm then turns the corner toward the southern Appalachians and into the Carolinas, strengthening along the way. This will likely have snow on the northwest side of the track of the low, and it could be a dynamic snowstorm for whoever winds up in that zone.

The EURO continues to drift farther northwest and slams much of eastern Kentucky on Sunday…

The GFS isn’t as far northwest into Kentucky, but it did move northwest compared to earlier runs of the model…

This is one to watch as upper lows are tricky and can put down a ton of snow on that northwest side.

Temps rebound early next week before another system moves in with colder weather later next week.

That may very well be the beginning of another winter look shaping up for the second half of February. The Euro Ensembles show that trough moving through with an even deeper trough diving into the country a few days later…

This is right on cue at the time the EURO Weeklies show a cold pattern taking control of the country deep into March.
