Good Sunday to one and all. Our Sunday is starting out on a frosty note across parts of the state with a light freeze lurking tonight. This is kicking off a much colder than normal pattern for the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

Temps this morning are in the low 30s for many and recover into the 50s with a mix of sun and clouds. A light freeze is likely tonight with temps reaching the upper 20s and low 30s for most of the region. The rest of your Monday will see temps struggling to get out of the 50s yet again.<\/p>\n

From here, we watch a couple of lows working from west to east across the south. Can these come far enough north to bring some chilly showers to Kentucky? The GFS is the farthest north of the bunch and brings some pretty good rains into southern Kentucky through Thursday…<\/p>\n

The EURO is farther south and weaker with this whole setup and doesn’t bring much, if anything, into the state…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Canadian is also to our south…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

If the GFS is right with the farther north track of those systems, highs may not get out of the 50s for a few days. If the EURO\/Canadian tracks work out, highs will generally hit the low and middle 60s. Normal highs are in the 70s, by the way.<\/p>\n

The setup for this weekend is an ugly one and it’s one winter weather fans would be going crazy over had it occurred a few months back. Look at this monster trough digging into the eastern half of the country and spinning right on top of us…<\/p>\n

That setup brings rain, wind and cold temps for our region and much of the east. This may also bring spring snows to the highest elevations of the Appalachians and into the northeast.<\/p>\n

The EURO and GFS are similar with the overall evolution of this thing…<\/p>\n

That makes for a very cold end to April and start of May. Kentucky Derby week continues to look colder than normal. To what extent remains to be seen, but that will be the focus of the forecast in the week ahead.<\/p>\n
