Good Saturday to one and all. We have a few clusters of thunderstorms set to impact the region this weekend with more widespread storms by Monday. This continues to be part of a very active setup into the middle of August. A Setup that will make us feel more like September for the week ahead.<\/p>\n

Today’s storms aren’t widespread and not everyone will see the boomers. Those who do will have the possibility of damaging winds, large hail and high winds.<\/p>\n

The Storm Prediction Center has a low-end risk for severe storms across the entire area…<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A storm or two will be possible as we make our way into Sunday as a boundary slows down near the area. This is ahead of a much more potent storm system coming at us on Monday. As it gets closer, the threat for some late day strong to severe storms shows up across the west…<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This threat will increase for the rest of the region as we head into Monday. The Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center is showing this increase…<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Stripes of heavy rains will show up through Monday and the forecast models all see these but have the usual placement differences…<\/p>\n

This is coming via a big dip in the jet stream that unleashes cool temps for the middle of the week. There’s another big dip in the jet stream coming late next week…<\/p>\n

Check out the temperature anomalies from the Canadian from Monday through early Thursday…<\/p>\n

Highs in the upper 70s with lows in the 50s for a few days may show up for some.<\/p>\n

The next trough also brings below normal temps late week into next weekend…<\/p>\n

Y’all know I’ve been putting the GFS on blast and for good reason. The model is the absolute worst of any medium range forecast model I’ve ever seen and that’s saying something. It literally can’t do anything but show phantom heat waves and it’s not just in the longer range.<\/p>\n

Let’s take today for instance. The model is literally saying many parts of Kentucky flirt with 100 degrees…<\/p>\n

The model is doing it again on Monday ahead of the cold front.<\/p>\n

How about some more insanity from the GFS… Check out this high forecast for the week after next…<\/p>\n

That’s just an absurd forecast and I’m pointing all this out as a way to educate people as to how bad this model is right now. It’s really hard to believe there are meteorologists who simply regurgitate whatever this model says.<\/p>\n
