Some snowflakes are flying for parts of the region on this final Monday for the month of November. Much colder winds are blowing out there today and will continue for the next few days before we turn our attention toward two big rain makers rolling in to start December.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s flakes are scattered and only flying across parts of central and eastern Kentucky. Gusty winds make it feel much colder through Tuesday with temps back in the 30s for highs but will actually be colder than today. The first brings rain in here Thursday night through Friday night with lingering showers on Saturday. The second system then moves in for Sunday and Monday with more rain and colder air coming in behind it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/EURO-30.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62051\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/EURO-30.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s a general 1&#8243;-2&#8243; of rain likely from Friday through Monday, with locally higher amounts possible.<\/p>\n<p>The air behind that isn&#8217;t terribly cold, but still below normal. The cold shots coming behind that will be a different story as the overall pattern changes up.<\/p>\n<p>As I look farther down the road, I&#8217;m struck by the consistency of the longer range models like the GFS Extended and the EURO Weeklies. Both show sustained blocking across Greenland through December and that tries to occasionally hook up with a ridge along the west coast and into western Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the average of GFS Extended for the next 30 days&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/GFS-15.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62044\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/GFS-15.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"723\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/GFS-15.png 960w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/GFS-15-300x226.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/GFS-15-768x578.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The control run of the GFS Extended is even stronger with the trough in the east&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/GFS-2-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62043\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/GFS-2-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"961\" height=\"725\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/GFS-2-2.png 961w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/GFS-2-2-300x226.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/GFS-2-2-768x579.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 961px) 100vw, 961px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If we look at the GFS Extended forecast of the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) shows it getting crossing teh &#8220;nothing&#8221; phase and emerging into Phase 8 and Phase 1 by the second week of December&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/MJO.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62046\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/MJO.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"562\" height=\"604\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/MJO.png 562w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/MJO-279x300.png 279w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 562px) 100vw, 562px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I know that&#8217;s a confusing diagram for most, but follow the red to blue to purple line to see where the forecast is for that particular date.<\/p>\n<p>Phases 8 and 1 in the winter months offer up a cold look for much of the country&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/MJO-Temp-Composites-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62047\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/MJO-Temp-Composites-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"504\" height=\"682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/MJO-Temp-Composites-2.png 504w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/MJO-Temp-Composites-2-222x300.png 222w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The EURO Weeklies continue to offer up a similar looking setup across North America as does the GFS Extended&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/EURO-25.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62042\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/EURO-25.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"961\" height=\"723\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/EURO-25.png 961w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/EURO-25-300x226.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/EURO-25-768x578.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 961px) 100vw, 961px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ya hate to see it, don&#8217;t ya? &#x1f61c;&#x2744;&#xfe0f;&#x1f976;<\/p>\n<p>I will have another update later today.
