Our upper level low is slowly spinning toward the region and will bring some light snow and snow showers. That may put down some light accumulations by late Thursday and Friday for parts of the region.<\/p>\n<p>All of this is kicking off a very wintry setup as we head into the brand spanking new year.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s begin with today&#8217;s weather then move it ahead. Rain across eastern Kentucky is slowly working out of the region this morning with a partly to mostly cloud sky coming in behind it. Once into Thursday night and Friday, bands of light snow and snow showers then impact a wider region.<\/p>\n<p>The best chance for some light accumulating snow is across the western half of the state&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/1-MAP.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62730\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/1-MAP.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"965\" height=\"530\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/1-MAP.png 965w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/1-MAP-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/1-MAP-768x422.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 965px) 100vw, 965px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I do expect most of the region to see some light snow out of this, but anything that sticks would likely only be on elevated and grassy surfaces.<\/p>\n<p>The NAM is the most aggressive with the light snows. Here&#8217;s the progression of this system from Thursday through Saturday morning&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/NAM-21.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62731\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/NAM-21.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The model sees the pockets of thumping snow but is likely overdone&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nam-11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62738\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nam-11.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"963\" height=\"755\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nam-11.png 963w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nam-11-300x235.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nam-11-768x602.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 963px) 100vw, 963px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Model has much lighter amounts and more in line with the current reality&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Canadian-14.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62737\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Canadian-14.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"965\" height=\"758\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Canadian-14.png 965w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Canadian-14-300x236.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Canadian-14-768x603.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 965px) 100vw, 965px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So does the GFS, which is finally starting to pick up on the light snow&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/GFS-15.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62736\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/GFS-15.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"965\" height=\"755\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/GFS-15.png 965w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/GFS-15-300x235.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/GFS-15-768x601.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 965px) 100vw, 965px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t a huge deal as temps are marginal and the snow looks fairly light. My concern for a thumper band of snow is still there somewhere in the west, but it&#8217;s not as strong of a signal as in prior days.<\/p>\n<p>Another system drops in by New Year&#8217;s Eve and New Year&#8217;s Day and may bring another round of light snow and snow showers.<\/p>\n<p>The pattern for the first week and change continues to be one sending storm systems rolling across the country. You can clearly see these on the EURO Ensembles&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/EURO-37.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62733\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/EURO-37.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Ensembles look similar&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Canadian-31.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62741\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Canadian-31.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is the pattern I outlined in the winter forecast setting up for January and February.
