Our wintry mix is still on target to arrive tonight and early Saturday. The snow signal is a little better on the models today and that&#8217;s been a trend since last night, but it&#8217;s all about the location of this swath of snow.<\/p>\n<p>The latest future radar from the HRRR shows rain increasing late this evening into the wee hours of the morning. Watch how the column cools enough for a healthy band of wet snow to develop by morning and continue into the mid-morning before ending&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/HRRR-2.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63016\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/HRRR-2.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The HRRR is likely overdone, but snow lovers are cheering this run on as it has a thumper snowfall&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/HRRR.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63017\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/HRRR.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"963\" height=\"755\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is something the EURO has been showing to a lesser extent and it continues to do so&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/EURO-7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63026\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/EURO-7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The GFS continues to trend up with the snow totals and with the overall coverage&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/GFS-SNOW-6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63032\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/GFS-SNOW-6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"755\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The NAM is farther north, but it&#8217;s also jumping on board&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/NAM-2-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63018\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/NAM-2-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"956\" height=\"757\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Hi Res NAM is also in&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/NAM-5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63019\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/NAM-5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"963\" height=\"755\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ironically, the Canadian models are jumping off after being the models showing this up originally&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Canadian-8.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63029\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Canadian-8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"963\" height=\"755\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Are we looking at an overachiever? That&#8217;s certainly a possibility and I&#8217;ll address this with a New Call For Snowfall on WKYT-TV sarting at 4pm and I&#8217;ll give you two more updates here on KWC later today.<\/p>\n<p>The system moving through here on Sunday is also trending a little snowier for central and eastern Kentucky&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/GFS-14.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63038\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/GFS-14.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The monster storm system is still on target to impact our region from Monday night through Wednesday. This starts as a wintry mix Monday night before going over the heavy rain and high winds for Tuesday. Winds of 40mph or greater are a good bet. You may even hear thunder during this time. By Tuesday evening, temps are crashing from west to east with snow in the west that spreads eastward Tuesday night and Wednesday.
