We have a break in the wet pattern out there today, but it&#8217;s only a break. More in the way of heavy rain rolls in for Saturday and there&#8217;s the chance for this rain to end as a bit of snow Sunday and Sunday night.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s begin with today and look ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Clouds are pretty thick across the region with a chillier wind blowing behind the departing low pressure. Highs are mainly in the 40s with some 50s lingering in the southeast and east. As this low wraps up to our northeast, colder winds come in from the northwest for Sunday. That means the chance for some wet snows to show up in the central and east.<\/p>\n<p>The NAM is the most robust with this possibility&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/NAM-16.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63536\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/NAM-16.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s probably a little overdone as I&#8217;m not expecting much more than a bit of a mix to show up.<\/p>\n<p>The next system in the form of a clipper drops in behind this on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing the chance for rain and snow&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/GFS-47.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63540\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/GFS-47.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pattern continues to progress into one that really enhances the blocking in the high latitudes, leading to deep troughs swinging across the country. The operational models like the GFS are going straight toward what we&#8217;ve been talking about&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/GFS-2-24.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63542\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/GFS-2-24.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The EURO Weeklies have not budged on this look&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/EURO-23.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63533\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/EURO-23.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This blocking with this pattern really gets established in the middle of February and likely goes through early March.<\/p>\n<p>The control run of the EURO Weeklies still have the look of a harsh late winter period&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/EURO-18.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63534\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/EURO-18.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"965\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/EURO-18.png 965w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/EURO-18-300x175.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/EURO-18-768x448.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 965px) 100vw, 965px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I will have updates later today.
