A significant severe weather outbreak appears likely Sunday and Sunday night. Waves of severe storms will roll across Kentucky, bringing all modes of severe weather along the way.<\/p>\n<p>A few thoughts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The first wave of severe storms works across western Kentucky Sunday morning and into central and eastern Kentucky during the afternoon.<\/li>\n<li>Widespread wind damage is possible with this line.<\/li>\n<li>Additional severe storms then develop behind this during the evening.<\/li>\n<li>Another massive line of severe storms then crosses the state from west to east Sunday night.<\/li>\n<li>This line may also bring widespread wind damage with it.<\/li>\n<li>Hurricane force wind gusts are possible at some points along both of the main lines of severe storms.<\/li>\n<li>A few tornadoes will also show up with the greatest threat across western and southern Kentucky.<\/li>\n<li>Large hail of greater than golf ball sized will also be possible.<\/li>\n<li>Flash flooding will show up in some areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The latest future radars from some of the hi resolution models show this whole scenario very well.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the HRRR from 8am Sunday to 8am Monday&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/HRRR-4.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65143\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/HRRR-4.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new RRFS is very similar during the same time period&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RRFS.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65145\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RRFS.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The peak wind gust forecasts from the models are increasing as we get closer. The HRRR peak wind gusts&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/HRRR.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65144\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/HRRR.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"970\" height=\"758\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/HRRR.png 970w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/HRRR-300x234.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/HRRR-768x600.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Notice the max wind gust in the bottom right corner is at 95mph.<\/p>\n<p>The WRF wind gust forecast is similar&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/WRF.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65146\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/WRF.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"964\" height=\"758\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/WRF.png 964w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/WRF-300x236.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/WRF-768x604.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 964px) 100vw, 964px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Storm Prediction Center has most of Kentucky in the Enhanced Risk for severe storms on Sunday&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/partners\/outlooks\/state\/images\/KY_swody2.png?1716572787\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I think an upgrade to Moderate Risk is possible for parts of the area.<\/p>\n<p>The current Tornado Outlook from the SPC continues to paint the bullseye in the west&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/partners\/outlooks\/state\/images\/KY_swody2_TORN.png?1716572908\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Widespread wind damage shows up on the Severe Wind Outlook from the SPC&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/partners\/outlooks\/state\/images\/KY_swody2_WIND.png?1716573071\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some severe hail is likely&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/partners\/outlooks\/state\/images\/KY_swody2_HAIL.png?1716573204\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We also have to be on guard for a couple of strong to severe storms going up Monday afternoon, well after the main severe weather clears the region.
