It&#8217;s another gorgeous weather day in the Commonwealth as all weather eyes turn toward Beryl down in the Gulf of Mexico. This storm becomes a hurricane again as it targets Texas with the possibility of the remnants impacting us in the week ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Beryl is barreling toward the Texas coast today and it&#8217;s doing some flexing down in the Gulf of Mexico&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.star.nesdis.noaa.gov\/GOES16\/ABI\/SECTOR\/gm\/GEOCOLOR\/GOES16-GM-GEOCOLOR-1000x1000.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Take our exclusive interactive radar out for a spin and go right down to street level in Texas to track this storm. The storm will then bend toward the northeast once it gets over land with a track from Texas to the Ohio Valley likely through Thursday. The exact track remains uncertain, and you can see that with the super wide cone from the National Hurricane Center&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/storm_graphics\/AT02\/refresh\/AL022024_5day_cone_no_line_and_wind+png\/203520_5day_cone_no_line_and_wind.png\" alt=\"cone graphic\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An inland track like that is VERY unusual for a storm hitting Texas. If we look back through recorded history, we find 50 tropical or extratropical storms have moved across Kentucky. Most of those come from storms hitting east of the mouth of the Mississippi River&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65563\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1187\" height=\"770\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK.png 1187w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK-300x195.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK-1024x664.png 1024w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK-768x498.png 768w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK-1080x701.png 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1187px) 100vw, 1187px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The lone hurricane on record to hit that far west and move across Kentucky is Harvey from August of 2017&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65562\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1310\" height=\"755\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK-2.png 1310w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK-2-300x173.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK-2-1024x590.png 1024w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK-2-768x443.png 768w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TROPICAL-TRACK-2-1080x622.png 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1310px) 100vw, 1310px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That track through the Caribbean, across the Yucatan and into Texas is very similar to Beryl.\u00a0 Harvey had the devastating loop across eastern Texas then made another landfall in Louisiana. This is where the tracks differ.<\/p>\n<p>Still, you can see what an unusual storm Beryl is from a historical track perspective.<\/p>\n<p>Can the remnant low actually make it into Kentucky, though? That&#8217;s still the million-dollar question. As of now, the favored area of the state to be impacted by this storm is the west and north.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the hurricane model forecasts are in this region or just west of the Ohio River&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tropicaltidbits.com\/storminfo\/02L_tracks_latest.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here are the GFS Ensembles&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tropicaltidbits.com\/storminfo\/02L_gefs_latest.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And the GEPS&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tropicaltidbits.com\/storminfo\/02L_geps_latest.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The GFS has the farthest west track with only a minimal impact on our weather&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/GFS-4.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65569\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/GFS-4.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The NAM is quite a bit farther east with a track right across western Kentucky&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/NAM-1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65566\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/NAM-1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian family is even east of the NAM. Here&#8217;s the Short Range Canadian&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Canadian-1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65565\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Canadian-1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the normal Canadian&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Canadian-2.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65570\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Canadian-2.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"984\" height=\"808\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The inland track comes down to a trough across the Plains states and just how it interacts with Beryl. Where does it turn this system to the northeast? That will make all the difference in a healthy impact verses a minimal impact on our weather.<\/p>\n<p>I may throw you guys another update later today.
