It’s a week that’s straight out of the start of fall as a deep trough takes up residence across the eastern half of the country. This trough means temps can make a run at record lows in some spots in the coming days. Bring. On. Fall.

Before we get to the fall-like forecast, I want to highlight what’s going on in the sky tonight.

Tonight gives us a super rare treat with a Super Blue Moon! What the heck is a Super Blue Moon? A Super Blue Moon is simultaneously a full moon, blue moon, and a super moon.

The Super Moon part refers to the moon’s orbit, which brings it slightly closer to Earth this month, making it appear bigger and brighter. The Blue Moon part just means this is the 4th full moon of a particular season, in this case it’s summer. The next Super Blue Moon won’t occur until 2037, so you just might want to take some time to check this one out!

As far as the weather is concerned, this week features some of the coolest temps you will ever find around here in the middle of August. Highs out there today generally hang out in the 75-80 degree range for many as a few showers and storms go back up. Humidity levels will then lower from north to south during the afternoon.

This won’t be as widespread as Sunday, but some quick-hitting heavy rainers will be possible.
