Good Sunday to one and all. It’s a very windy and mild day across the Commonwealth as we get ready for a major fall cold front. This slams in here tonight with a nice cold snap coming behind it. This will give us unseasonably cold air with a good shot at frost and freezing conditions.<\/p>\n

Winds today may gust to 40mph in some areas as temps soar ahead of our cold front. This front doesn’t have much moisture to work with, but it can spit out a broken line of showers and storms across central and eastern Kentucky.<\/p>\n

There’s even a low-end threat for some wind damage across the east. That’s reflected in today’s Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…<\/p>\n

Cold air crashes in quickly behind this front during the evening hours with low 40s by Monday morning. Highs stay in the 50s on a gusty wind for Monday. Another system drops in Monday night and Tuesday. That brings chilly showers to central and eastern Kentucky with the mountain snows showing up across areas of West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina…<\/p>\n

With such cold air aloft, there’s an outside chance for a little bit of graupel to show up around here. Wait… What? Yep… A chance.<\/p>\n

With clouds and showers, temps will have a hard time getting out of the upper 40s in the east. This animation goes from 8am to 8pm Tuesday…<\/p>\n

With clearing skies taking shape Tuesday night, the thermometer tanks. Lows can drop into the upper 20s and the models are trending colder as we get closer…<\/p>\n

That would be a freeze, obviously.<\/p>\n

With a little bit of wind blowing, the GFS is forecasting wind chills pretty deep into the 20s…<\/p>\n

Widespread frost and another light freeze will be possible Thursday and Friday mornings. Afternoon temps edge up a bit toward the 60-65 degree range.<\/p>\n

This is a pretty significant blast of cold for this time of year and it’s coming with a wintertime looking trough. Check out the snows across the northeastern part of the country over the next few days…<\/p>\n
