Good Sunday to one and all. Christmas is just around the corner and the pattern continues to look the part of a shower maker instead of a snow maker. That’s a bummer, but it is what it is. As we look deeper down the road, there’s a big time pattern change lurking around the New Year.<\/p>\n

Let’s begin with today and roll forward.<\/p>\n

Temps are in the teens this morning and recover deep into the 30s for most of central and eastern Kentucky. The west will reach 40-45. Those 40s then take over everywhere on Monday as clouds thicken ahead of a weak front dropping in from the north. That boundary arrives with scattered showers on Christmas Eve then gives way to a weak low pressure moving in from the southwest Christmas Day. That brings another chance for showers through here…<\/p>\n

That’s not a lot of rain by any means, but a few showers will be noted from time to time.<\/p>\n

Temps jump up behind that as another storm system develops across the Plains and rolls toward the Great Lakes next weekend. This brings showers and a few thunderstorms into the area before colder winds crash in behind that system…<\/p>\n

That trough swinging in looks to be the beginning of our change toward a pattern that can quickly grow into a harsh winter setup for our region. The GFS Ensembles show this pattern going wild as we flip the calendar to 2025…<\/p>\n

That’s some massive blocking showing up from Alaska toward Greenland. That pattern then forces some very cold air into this deepening trough…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

That’s some serious cold coming in the heart of winter when our normal temps are at their lowest of the entire year.<\/p>\n

This blocking pattern and deep trough across the United States continues to show up very well on the GFS Extended. This run goes through the middle of January…<\/p>\n
