Good evening, everyone. Our weekend is wrapping up on a cold note but mild days are ahead. This is ahead of a major pattern change that’s likely to bring a harsh winter setup to much of the country as we hit the new year.<\/p>\n

It’s all eyes on Christmas Eve and Day and the chance for a few showers moving in. Folks, this is NOT even close to washout material, but a few showers will streak across the region from time to time, especially Christmas Eve and late Christmas Day.<\/p>\n

The EURO is the wettest model, but can only manage a few tenths of an inch during this period…<\/p>\n

Actual numbers may even be lower than that.<\/p>\n

The EURO is also showing the outside chance of this starting out as a flake or two into eastern Kentucky Christmas Eve…<\/p>\n

Temps rebound well into the 50s for the end of the week as we watch low pressure move in with showers and a few thunderstorms by Friday. A second push of showers and thunder would be noted a day or two later with colder air coming in behind that to end next weekend…<\/p>\n

This leads us into the big change toward winter we’ve been harping on for weeks now. The operational models aren’t very useful from this time frame, but some runs show us the potential of the pattern in the early days of January, like the EURO is showing…<\/p>\n

The AI version of the EURO doesn’t show precipitation type, but you can see two healthy storm systems interacting with cold air…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Ensembles continue to show the way toward major blocking from the west coast and Alaska all the way across the North Pole to Greenland. That blocking sends a massive trough into the United States…<\/p>\n
