Good afternoon, everyone. It’s a springtime looking and feeling day in the Bluegrass state as we get set for heavy rain, high winds and strong storms later tonight into Sunday. This will be followed up by winter taking control of the pattern as we hit 2025.<\/p>\n

The wind potential tonight and early Sunday remains pretty stout as the models continue to indicate gusts topping 50mph in some areas of, especially, central Kentucky. Take a look at the peak wind gust forecasts from the models…<\/p>\n

As of this writing, there are no Wind Advisories out anywhere in our region.<\/p>\n

The low-end threat for a few strong to severe storms is there tonight and Sunday. Much of today’s severe weather is to our south with a massive severe weather outbreak in the deep south. Here’s today’s Severe Weather Outlook…<\/p>\n

The Storm Prediction Center continues to highlight the Marginal Risk for severe storms across eastern Kentucky on Sunday…<\/p>\n

I think we have to watch for that threat all the way back into central Kentucky.<\/p>\n

The system rolling in behind this brings gusty showers and falling temps for New Year’s Eve. This colder air means the chance for a few flurries and snow showers on New Year’s Day with a light snow maker coming in behind that by Thursday night and Friday.<\/p>\n

The Canadian is seeing the signal for a bigger storm showing up after that, but it’s toward the end of the model run…<\/p>\n

The GFS has our Friday light snow maker and has the signal for a bigger storm a few days later with another one following that up as bitterly cold air crashes in…<\/p>\n

Last night we had the EURO showing the potential for below zero temps during this period and now the GFS is showing the same…<\/p>\n
