Good evening, everyone. It’s a full-blown winter pattern taking shape and it’s likely to go harsh into much of January. Things will kick off with flakes for day one and from there, we watch the increasing potential for accumulating snows and bitterly cold temps.<\/p>\n

Low pressure rolls in here for New Year’s Eve with gusty showers and even an early day rumble of thunder. Winds will gust to 30-35mph at times with colder air crashing in during the evening. That means the chance for some flakes mixing with rain will be with us as the clock strikes midnight.<\/p>\n

The future radar from the HRRR then shows snow showers and flurries kicking into high gear into New Year’s Day…<\/p>\n

Temps tank with this as wind chills go in the tank. Watch wind chills in the teens showing up for New Year’s Day…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The system coming in for Thursday night into Friday is likely a light snowfall maker across central and eastern Kentucky…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The new GFS is seeing this better…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As expected, the GFS is also coming south with the winter storm potential for late this weekend and early next week…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The EURO came in farther south as well…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

That’s backed up by the EURO AI which doesn’t show precipitation type…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As usual, what happens here depends on the track of the low…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As you know, winter does not let up after this with arctic cold and snow threats lining up. The CPC is looking ahead toward this potential in week two of the month…<\/p>\n

Also, the Canadian Ensembles have their snowiest look yet over the next few weeks…<\/p>\n
