Our Winter Storm THREAT continues for Sunday and Monday as a significant ice and snow event targets our region. This will cause all kinds of issues and will be followed by bitterly cold temps.<\/p>\n<p>Before the Winter Storm hits our region, we have a light snowfall coming late tonight into Friday across areas of central and eastern Kentucky. Coatings to MAYBE\u00a0 local 1&#8243; will be possible&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/GFS-SNOW.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68665\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/GFS-SNOW.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"963\" height=\"758\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/GFS-SNOW.png 963w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/GFS-SNOW-300x236.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/GFS-SNOW-768x605.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 963px) 100vw, 963px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>he Winter Storm THREAT area remains unchanged in my eyes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/2-MAP.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68637\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/2-MAP.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"817\" height=\"453\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/2-MAP.jpg 817w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/2-MAP-300x166.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/2-MAP-768x426.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 817px) 100vw, 817px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t anticipate major changes to the overall thinking, but I will, obviously, get zoned in on totals and such. That will be with a First Call map later tonight.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Weather Prediction Center has much of the state in the high risk (70% or greater) of significant ice and snow with this system&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/WPC-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68666\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/WPC-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"795\" height=\"545\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/WPC-1.png 795w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/WPC-1-300x206.png 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/WPC-1-768x526.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The timeline on this storm remains unchanged:<\/p>\n<p>SUNDAY MORNING<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Snow, sleet and freezing rain develop in western Kentucky and this expands quickly across the rest of the state.<\/li>\n<li>Travel conditions deteriorate quickly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SUNDAY AFTERNOON<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Snow, sleet and freezing rain increase in intensity and coverage.<\/li>\n<li>The heaviest encompasses the northern half of the state.<\/li>\n<li>Far southern Kentucky will go over to rain with a temp spike.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SUNDAY NIGHT<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heavy amounts of freezing rain, sleet and snow impact the northern half of Kentucky.<\/li>\n<li>Significant icing may lead to power issues for some areas.<\/li>\n<li>Winds will also be very gusty and that won&#8217;t help matters.<\/li>\n<li>Southern Kentucky has mainly rain and a mix.<\/li>\n<li>Where the lines are for each precipitation type will be a gametime decision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>MONDAY<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Morning freezing rain quickly goes back over to snow.<\/li>\n<li>A band of moderate to heavy snow may be noted across central and eastern Kentucky.<\/li>\n<li>Winds will still be gusty as our storm moves east.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This storm is starting to get within the range of the short range models like the NAM.
