Good afternoon, everyone. Light snow continues to overachieve into much of central and eastern Kentucky and this is causing renewed travel issues. These flakes are being pushed by arctic cold taking hold tonight as we wait for another winter storm Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n

Many areas, including Lexington, have already picked up a fresh inch of snow. Another inch or so may fall today through the evening, keeping travel a mess.<\/p>\n

Can skies clear tonight to allow temps to crash to below zero readings? That will be a tough ask for many areas, but the HRRR is a little more optimistic on clearing tonight. Check out the Thursday morning lows from the model…<\/p>\n

With a deep snowpack, clearing skies would lead to lows going well below zero. If the clouds hang, your temp hangs in the 10-15 degree range.<\/p>\n

As expected, Winter Storm Watches have been issued ahead of the next system, but I think these should come several counties farther north and west…<\/p>\n

That Winter Weather Advisory in the east was issued today for the light snowfall going on today.<\/p>\n

As hard as it is to believe, I think the GFS actually has a pretty good handle on this storm…<\/p>\n

That’s a widespread 3″-6″ snowfall across Kentucky with some higher totals in the southeast. That matches up well with my First Call for Snowfall…<\/p>\n
