I wanted to drop by for a quick update on the pattern ahead as we have more in the way of bitterly cold air and a little light snow on the way. The overall pattern remains tilted toward harsh with another rough and tumble period likely kicking off next weekend.

Two arctic fronts blow through here from Monday through Tuesday night. The first has some light snow and flurries for Monday with the second one having the best chance of putting down coatings to 1″ for parts of the region.

The best chance for this will be across central and eastern Kentucky…

Temps behind this first front drop pretty much all day Monday with single digit lows by Tuesday morning. Keep that in mind.

Temps likely jump for a brief period to start the upcoming weekend as arctic air pushes back in during the weekend and early next week. The initial front will likely be a rain to snow scenario then we focus on this boundary becoming active with waves of low pressure developing along it. Those would likely throw winter precipitation into our region next week.

The models will flip around with how they handle all this, but that’s to be expected from this range and when we’re dealing with such an extreme looking pattern.

Here’s the latest GFS with for the weekend into early the following week…

Again, don’t ride with any one model solution. I’m forecasting the overall setup which is one that usually produces winter storm impacts for our region. It will also bring brutally cold temps back in here.

I’ll have your full update later tonight.
