Good evening, folks. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for far southeastern Kentucky with a Winter Weather Advisory out for much of central and eastern Kentucky. This is for our latest round of harsh winter weather that will be followed by brutally cold temps.<\/p>\n

As expected, the Winter Weather Advisory was expanded north and west with the upgrade to the Winter Storm Warning in the southeast. Here’s a look…<\/p>\n

This map will update if additional counties are added to either of those…<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

All of this matches up well with the snowfall forecast I’ve had out since early Friday and I continue to roll with it…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Two spots of interest with this. The first is the Lexington metro and the Bluegrass Region where there are hints of an overperformer, but I do have up to 4″ here so I feel good. The other is a part of the southeast where I could see some initial mixing keeping totals on the low-end of the range.<\/p>\n

Watch for blowing and drifting snow Sunday afternoon and Sunday night as winds gust 20mph to 30mph at times. Wow!!!<\/p>\n

The GFS continues to be my new BFF…<\/p>\n

The EURO is coming around as well…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The RAP shows the overperformance potential in the Lexington Metro area and the chance for lighter armounts east…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The WRF is similar to my forecast…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

So is another of the short-range models i look at…<\/p>\n

All of this is being pushed by the Polar Vortex that has invaded the United States. This is bringing some incredibly cold air in here over the next several days…<\/p>\n

In anticipation of the bitter cold in the coming days. A Cold Weather Advisory is out for much of Kentucky with an Extreme Cold Watch for areas of the north and northeast…<\/p>\n

Let me say I absolutely love that the NWS consolidated all these advisories into something much easier for the general public to understand. Honesy, it’s a great thing they did.<\/p>\n

However, I will argue the criteria for central and eastern Kentucky is too stringent for Extreme Cold Warnings…<\/p>\n

That’s from the NWS in Louisville.<\/p>\n

As you know, -15 wind chills around here aren’t very common at all in today’s climate. I think if we knock that down to -10 areawide, we are in business.<\/p>\n

Regardless, there’s a chance we see wind chills approaching -15 across some areas. The model forecasts from 1pm Sunday through 8am Monday is wicked cold for wind chills…<\/p>\n

Actual low temps by Monday morning should range from -5 to 5 above…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

There’s the chance for some light snow and flurries from the southern winter storm on Tuesday with another brutally cold night to follow. Lows go below zero Wednesday morning with wind chills that can reach -10 or colder once again.<\/p>\n

This is an incredibly brutal couple days of weather ahead of us, folks.<\/p>\n
