We have a big-time rainmaker rolling into the region today and this may bring enough rain to cause local flooding issues. This kicks off a very active pattern that looks to kick into high gear as we get into February.<\/p>\n<p>A few thoughts on our rain system:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heavy rains develop from southwest to northeast today.<\/li>\n<li>The heaviest rain falls this evening into the overnight hours.<\/li>\n<li>A general 1&#8243;-3&#8243; are likely across the entire state.<\/li>\n<li>This would be enough to cause, at least, local high water issues to develop.<\/li>\n<li>Any bit of ice that remains on creeks and rivers could further complicate high water matters.<\/li>\n<li>Friday starts wet then goes to full sunshine as temps surge into the upper 50s and low 60s.<\/li>\n<li>Winds will be a factor through Friday. Local gusts can reach 40mph at times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a look at the rainfall forecast I&#8217;m rolling with&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1-MAP-15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-69614\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1-MAP-15.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"937\" height=\"528\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1-MAP-15.jpg 937w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1-MAP-15-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1-MAP-15-768x433.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 937px) 100vw, 937px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A Flood Watch is out for western Kentucky as of this writing, but this may very well get expanded much farther east today. If that happens, you will see it here&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/x-hv1.pivotalweather.com\/maps\/warnings\/nwshaz.us_ov.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Saturday is a seasonable day with temps in the 40s and lots of low clouds trying to scour out. This will be followed by a big jump in temps for Groundhog Day Sunday as temps make a run toward 60 for most of the state.<\/p>\n<p>The mild temps take us into early next week before changes show up.<\/p>\n<p>The pattern after this remains active as cold shots start to get involved.
