Good Tuesday, everyone. This active February I’ve been priming you for is about to kick into high gear with rounds of heavy rain bringing a flood threat later this week into the weekend and Old Man Winter waiting to flex on us starting next week.<\/p>\n

Let’s start with today and roll forward.<\/p>\n

Temps are much chillier out there today with 40s across the northern half of the state and 50s in the south. There’s even the chance for light showers early today in the east.<\/p>\n

This colder air continues to filter in on a strong northeast flow tonight into Wednesday. That’s when a HUGE temp gradient sets up shop. Temps across the northern half of the state may be in the 30s at the same time far southern and western Kentucky are in the low 60s.<\/p>\n

Those 60s surge northward Wednesday night as showers and storms increase ahead of a storm system rolling in from the west. This brings rounds of heavy rain and storms in through Thursday night. Some of these storms may be on the strong side. Check out the lightning tracker from the EURO…<\/p>\n

Another storm system then brings more in the way of heavy rain and storms through here Friday night through Saturday night.<\/p>\n

All of this means the increased potential for flooding issues from Thursday into the weekend. Here’s a look at the area with the greatest risk…<\/p>\n

This is likely a general 1″-3″ rainfall showing up during this time, but thunderstorms in the mix mean we could see some locally higher totals setting up.<\/p>\n

The models have some pretty hefty totals showing up during this time…<\/p>\n

Much colder winds blow in behind all this on Sunday, setting the stage for a storm track likely setting up farther south into next week. That means our region will be in the line of fire for winter weather but the operational models are still going to be in “trying to figure it out” mode.<\/p>\n

The first storm of interest comes during the first half of next week. Here’s the Canadian Model showing with that system…<\/p>\n

The EURO goes out deeper in time and shows this threat with additional systems behind it…<\/p>\n

The GFS continues to be the farthest west and north with all the storm systems…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

If somehow the GFS ends up being correct… some significant flooding issues would be possible next week.<\/p>\n

The EURO Weeklies continue to have a strong winter signal through the rest of February and deep into March. This is a similar signal to what they were giving us in the weeks leading up to January…<\/p>\n
