It’s a snowy start to the day across central and eastern Kentucky as arctic air continues to press in. This air brings below zero wind chills from time to time today and Friday, but we have a better pattern taking shape by the weekend.

Snow this morning is blanketing roads across in many areas so slow down and take it easy if you’re travelling. Snow showers and a few snow squalls kick in during the afternoon across the eastern half of the state. These may put down hit and run light accumulations and briefly reduce visibility.

The Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings should slowly go by the wayside as the day wears on. Here’s a look at the current map…

Wind chills this morning may drop as low as 0 to -10 across central and western Kentucky and they hang in the single digits for much of the day. Similar wind chills show up this evening into early Friday, making for a bitterly cold start to the day.

Conditions get better by the afternoon with temps reaching the mid and upper 20s. Those numbers climb into the 35–40-degree range Saturday before shooting into the 40s on Sunday.

Temps should hit 50 for a few days early next week before this pattern turns active before the week if over. That action comes as we go back to a big ridge up into Alaska, helping push a deep trough into the eastern half of the country to start March…

The EURO Weeklies are echoing my concerns for more winter weather for the first half of March as they see that deep trough into the eastern half of the country for the first week of the month…

That trough takes up much more of the country for the second week of March…

I do expect this pattern to snap into spring right after that and it may go toward one that turns pretty warm later in the month.
