Good Monday and Happy Saint Patrick’s Day<\/span><\/strong>. It’s a seasonably <\/span>chilly day across Kentucky as we kick off a week of big temps swings. The swings include a few days of highs in the 70s with a day or two with lows in the 20s. The transition may even feature a few thunderstorms and… Snowflakes. Ugh.<\/p>\n

Temps today range from the upper 40s to middle 50s across the state with a partly sunny sky. That gusty wind will add to the chill.<\/p>\n

Thermometers Tuesday and Wednesday reach the upper 60s to low 70s as winds come at us from the southwest. That southwest wind is ahead of a low pressure moving from the Plains States to the Great Lakes Wednesday night and Thursday. This won’t be nearly as strong as the system we just had, but it has even colder air kicking in behind it.<\/p>\n

This low drags a cold front through here with some showers and thunderstorms ahead of it with some snowflakes possibly coming in behind it on Thursday…<\/p>\n

Highs on Thursday only reach the low and mid 40s with gusty winds making it feel much colder. This wind chill animation runs from 8am Thursday through 8am Friday…<\/p>\n

The pattern after this remains active, but is skewed colder than normal. Additional systems drop in from the northwest during this time. Most of these bring chilly showers but there’s the chance for a few flakes.<\/p>\n

The Canadian Model sees a few more flakes than the GFS…<\/p>\n

Well, that’s not good at all.<\/p>\n

As we start looking ahead toward April, I’m on board with a very stormy pattern in our region with above normal severe weather. The EURO Weeklies have been showing this setup well with above normal rainfall.<\/p>\n

The overall pattern at 500mb looks like this…<\/p>\n

With above normal precipitation, the same Weeklies are showing slightly below normal temperatures in our region…<\/p>\n
