Freezing rain continues to fall across parts of central and eastern Kentucky and this action will FINALLY begin to wind down over the next few hours. Several thousand customers are without power across southeastern parts of the state because of the ice.<BR><BR>Light snow and flurries will continue across northern and northeastern Kentucky into the afternoon with minor additional accumulations. Your friendly weather dude picked up just over 6 inches of snow from this storm. Don&#8217;t hate! <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/emoticons\/smile.png\" border=\"0\" \/><BR><BR>I will get a new post on this afternoon to take a look at our next snow chances this weekend into Christmas week so check back for that. Take care.<BR><BR><STRONG>10am Update<BR><BR><\/STRONG>Good morning to one and all. Let me say thanks for all the hard work you guys have been doing with this storm. It is because of your reports that the meteorological community across Kentucky was able to track the ice and snow lines with this winter storm.<BR><BR>Significant amounts of ice and snow cover much of the state right now. Parts of central and southern Kentucky continue to pick up freezing rain right now adding to the widespread icing. Many areas have picked up .25&#8243; to .50&#8243; if freezing rain with some amounts in southern and southeastern Kentucky working on one inch of ice! Wow.<BR><BR>Much of northern and northeastern Kentucky have picked up 3&#8243;-7&#8243; of snow so far and it is still snowing in many of these areas. A few spots in northeastern Kentucky can finish with 8&#8243; or 9&#8243; of the white stuff before the snows wrap up early this afternoon.<BR><BR>I am happy with the overall&nbsp;forecast we put out. The only area I am not thrilled with is the transition area around central Kentucky as the freezing rain surged farther north than I anticipated. Nailing down exact lines of freezing rain verses snow is impossible to do&#8230; but I hate missing it for the folks in that part of the state.<BR><BR>Keep posting the weather conditions from where you live. Just dropping by for a quick update and to say sleep is for the weak. haha Significant amounts of ice and snow continue to fall across much of central and eastern Kentucky this morning and this will continue into early this afternoon.<BR><BR>Areas across central and southern parts of the state will continue to see mainly freezing rain and sleet while northern and northeastern Kentucky gets in on moderate to heavy snows. The ice is of particular concern as we could see some power outages before all is said and done. <BR><BR>For the areas getting in on all snow&#8230; a general 3&#8243;-6&#8243; of snow will be likely with local amounts to 7 or 8 inches.<BR><BR>Travel across the entire region is a mess and is dangerous this morning as roads are ice and snow covered. Freezing rain has surged northward through the Lexington area already. There is a lot of freezing rain and sleet yet to go and this will likely lead to significant icing for much of central and southern Kentucky. This would include Lexington and Louisville as well as many other cities. Ice accumulation may exceed a half inch and this may lead to power outages.<BR><BR>Farther north and east&#8230; moderate to heavy snows will continue into the overnight hours for such cities as Covington, Maysville, Morehead and Ashland to name a few. The time has come for us to actually track the storm across the state and to do a lot of nowcasting. This is where you guys are so important to the weather community as you now have the voice. Let us know what is happening where you live by giving us frequent updates. Be sure to tell us your location so we can get a better understanding of how this storm is actually playing out.<BR><BR>Before we get to the tracking toys, a few thoughts&#8230;<BR><BR>&#8211; The forecast we have out appears on track and there is nothing I have seen tonight to change my thinking. A general 3&#8243;-6&#8243; swath of snow will be setting up for northern and northeastern Kentucky. The southward extent of this is all depending on the switch to ice. Areas along and north of a line from Oldham Country through Madison County then southeast toward Perry and Letcher Counties appear to be in good shape for several inches of snow.This would include the Lexington metro.&nbsp;Somewhere in the region should see a band of higher amounts setting up with totals that can max out at 8&#8243;.<BR><BR>&#8211; The southern edge of the areas I outlined above will likely switch over to freezing rain to go on top of the snow and this may lead to some serious icing issues. Most of south central and southeastern Kentucky appear to be in line for a significant amount of freezing rain. Ice totals can exceed half an inch. This would be enough to lead to power outages in some areas and cause some trees to come down.<BR><BR>&#8211; Farther west toward the Louisville area and the I-65 corridor&#8230; any snow should change over to freezing rain with the potential for .25&#8243; accumulation of freezing rain. Local amounts can flirt with a half inch.
