Good Sunday, everyone. Strong to severe storms rumbled across Kentucky Saturday as a slow-moving low moved in from the west. This low is spinning on top of us today, bringing more in the way of showers and storms.<\/p>\n

Once gain, this will not be all day action by any means with the greatest concentration of showers and storms across central and eastern Kentucky. The storms won’t be as stout as the ones that prompted several tornado warnings on Saturday, but they still have a chance to spike to severe limits in the east.<\/p>\n

It’s a low-end threat from the Storm Prediction Center…<\/p>\n

The storms today are spinning around that low that drops from northwest to southeast across the Commonwealth today into Monday. The models give us a good look at the spiraling bands of showers and storms today and Monday…<\/p>\n

That low drops to the southeast on Tuesday before it gets pulled back northwest with some scattered showers and storms returning to the region. This will be ahead of a couple of systems dropping in with more showers and storms late next week into next weekend.<\/p>\n

That’s a very unsettled map, complete with something tropical off the Carolinas toward the end of that run.<\/p>\n

This looks like another wet month for our region, especially if you go by the AI versions of the GFS and EURO. Look at the next 2 weeks from the GFS AI…<\/p>\n

The EURO AI has a similar look…<\/p>\n

A similar look is now showing up on the EURO Weeklies as they’re going for above normal rainfall through the middle of September…<\/p>\n

Looking longer range, I’m really fascinated by the Super El Nino that’s developing. I made a lengthy post about this last week, but the weather across the US really isn’t following the typical script for developing supers. The warmer existing base state of the ocean temps is likely contributing to this. Something else is that this may very well become the strongest El Nino ever recorded, pushing boundaries never before seen.<\/p>\n

Me thinks that seasonal forecasters who are riding the typical Super El Nino train aren’t going to be happy campers when all is said and done. Been there, done that and have hopefully learned a little from it along the way.<\/p>\n
