We’ve made it to the end of a shortened work week and we are tracking more in the way of showers and storms. This action will be with us into the start of the weekend and that may cause a few issues for college football action on Saturday.

Scattered showers and storms rumble through the region today, but there’s a lot of dry time waiting on us, too. Just like on Thursday, these showers and storms have the potential to put down heavy rainfall in a short amount of time. That can lead to local high water-concerns.

The Weather Prediction Center continues to highlight the low-end threat today…

Temps range from the upper 70s to middle 80s, depending on where you are.

Saturday finds a better concentration of showers and storms rolling through central and eastern Kentucky as a wave of low pressure rolls by just to our east. This may very well impact college football games across the region.

Here’s the EURO showing how this plays out from Saturday morning through Sunday morning…

A leftover shower is possible early Sunday before our attention turns toward the possibility of another backdoor cold front sliding in Sunday night and Monday. This is something the models were more enthusiastic about a few days ago, then lost it. Some of them are seeing it again…

That’s the Canadian Model and it would set up quite the massive temp gradient for highs on Monday. Areas of the north and east are in the 70s while the far southwest hits the 90s…

Southwest winds will win the battle for the middle of next week with toasty temps returning for the entire region. After that, it’s more model chaos, but that’s pretty typical of a seasonal transition month like September.

The models go back and forth between seeing big troughs diving into the east or not. Much of this is because they’re seeing the possibility of unsettled weather off the southeastern seaboard, but don’t really know what to do with it all.

You can see that unsettled stuff on this run of the GFS from later next week into the following week…

The GFS Extended is liking the idea of troughs in the east for the second half of September into the first two weeks of October…

As always, I leave you with your daily storm tracking toys…

Current watches

Possible Watch Areas

Make it a fantastic Friday and take care.

Good Friday, everybody.
