A boundary is draped across the state from northwest to southeast and that’s fueling a few strong storms. This is ahead of a dramatic pattern change for the upcoming week. It’s a pattern that brings much cooler and wetter weather.

The boundary today continues to extend from northwest to southeast across central Kentucky. Temps southwest of this boundary are still steamy with much better air to the east and north of the front. This will also fire off a few rounds of showers and storms that drop in from the northwest.

A few of these storms may be strong or locally severe. The Storm Prediction Center has much of the area in the risk for damaging winds…

These storms will also pack a lot of lightning and a lot of rain. This may lead to local high water issues and that’s why we find the Weather Prediction Center highlighting this possibility with today’s Excessive Rainfall Outlook…

Additional clusters of storms will continue to be noted into Sunday, especially in the north and east. The low-end risk for a few severe storms is still being highlighted by the Storm Prediction Center…

Here’s the future radar from the Hi Res NAM showing the action from later today through Sunday…

From here, we watch the pattern go toward another extreme with a huge east coast storm system developing. This will be pushed by a big slow-moving upper level system over top of our region. This may also have a surface low with it. The end result would be rounds of rain and some thunder, with below normal temps settling in.

These animations start Sunday night and go through Friday. Here’s the GFS AI…

The Canadian is farther west and slower with the whole setup…

Highs in the low and mid 70s will be common starting Tuesday with any day with more rain and clouds possibly staying in the 60s. Lows reach the 50s with the chance for some 40s behind the departing system late in the week into next weekend.

Another big upper level system is likely then to drop in here behind all that, leading to more unsettled weather with cool temps.

As always, I leave you with your daily storm tracking toys…

Current watches

Possible Watch Areas

Make it a sensational Saturday and take care.

Good Saturday, folks.
