Good Thursday, everybody. The short-term weather continues to be pretty darn awesome and that’s a trend likely to take us into the first half of next week. That looks to change in the leadup to Halloween as the pattern turns more active.<\/p>\n

I have nothing new to say about the forecast through this weekend, so y’all enjoy it.<\/p>\n

The system off the east coast did in fact turn tropical. Josephine is slowly strengthening and slowly moving toward the northeast…<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It’s technically a subtropical system, but should get classified as a hurricane as it heads to the northeast…<\/p>\n

While that moves away from the US, I’m watching a Super Typhoon Champi in the western Pacific. This is the strongest storm on earth so far this year with the expected track toward Tawain and Japan…<\/p>\n

Notice how Champi is recurving instead of just bowling due west. That signal shows up well on the Ensembles…<\/p>\n

A recurving typhoon this time of year and into November typically means we watch for the resulting pattern downstream to buckle across North America, leading to a trough in the east. This signal is amplified by a strongly negative East Pacific Oscillation (EPO)…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

That’s about as negative as you will ever see the EPO and winter loves should be hoping for something like that in a few months.<\/p>\n

With those growing signals, we are seeing the models growing more aggressive with a trough, though they disagree on the exact timing.<\/p>\n

I’ve also been showing the EURO Weeklies a lot of late as they like a change to a more winter setup around Thanksgiving week into the start of December. Any snowfall map from this far out is not mean to be used for specifics by any means, but it gives us an indication the Weeklies are seeing the potential for early season snows…<\/p>\n
