Good Wednesday and happy turkey travels.\u00a0Today is the busiest travel day of the year and it\u2019s also the day we pay tribute to one of my favorite movies\u2026 Planes, Trains and Automobiles. We\u2019ve been doing this for many years now and it\u2019s become a blog tradition. This movie is\u00a0a classic for your friendly weatherdude and I highly recommend checking it out.<\/p>\n

The snow up until the point of this writing was a solid, solid underachiever and that does not make your friendly weatherdude happy. Still… some decent snows were noted from the Lexington metro and northeast. I’m hopeful the band of snow in the southeast will put snow on the ground before pulling out of town.<\/p>\n

I was driving home after work last night and something happened to put it all in perspective…<\/p>\n

A car was coming at, hit some slush and spun out, and crossed over my lane and into the ditch. Missed me by a matter of feet. Poor kid was scared to death. Perspective is a wonderful thing in life.<\/p>\n

Ok… back to the actual weather portion of the program.<\/p>\n

Snow showers and squalls will kick into high gear today across central and eastern Kentucky. There is a direct pipeline of moisture coming our way from the Great Lakes and that shows up well…<\/p>\n

\"GFS\"<\/a>That’s a high ratio snow, so it won’t take a lot of moisture to squeeze out some decent snows. This type of setup usually produces hit and run coverings that can add up if you get under a few of them. Visibilities will be greatly reduced in the heavier squalls. Throw in 30mph wind gusts and traveling today will be no walk in the park.<\/p>\n

Temps today will stay in the 20s and this will make for one of the coldest November days since the late 1970s. Wind chills will drop into the single digits at times. Ouch.<\/p>\n
