If you know anything about your friendly weatherdude, you know I am a sucker for Christmas. It is, without a doubt, my favorite time of year and I love just saying the words &#8220;Merry Christmas&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>While we won&#8217;t have a white Christmas, we will have some festive flakes and frigid temperatures to go around. The first round is moving across the state early this morning. It may leave behind a rooftop dusting for some areas. Temps this morning will drop into the teens across the central and west with low 20s east. Gusty winds may make it feel close to 0 at times.<\/p>\n<p>Sunny skies return later in the day as highs stay in the 20s. I have you set to do some holiday tracking&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/radar-large.asp?partner=netweather&amp;traveler=0&amp;site=KY_&amp;type=SIR&amp;anim=1&amp;level=state&amp;large=1#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/sirocco.accuweather.com\/nx_mosaic_640x480_public\/sir\/inmaSIRKY_.gif\" usemap=\"#largemap\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Current temperatures<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kymesonet.org\/wxmaps\/tair_f_large.png?nowtime=1325915126\" width=\"479\" height=\"208\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Winds<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kymesonet.org\/wxmaps\/brbs_large.png?nowtime=1325915761\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Christmas morning will find temps in the upper teens and low 20s with an increase in clouds. Those clouds have a shot of producing a few snowflakes. The future radar from the HI-Res NAM continues to show a diminishing band of light snow working into the region early in the day&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8430\" alt=\"NAM\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NAM2.png\" width=\"307\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NAM2.png 307w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NAM2-276x300.png 276w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 307px) 100vw, 307px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Highs will be in the 30s with gusty winds for the big day.<\/p>\n<p>Another system dives in from the northwest by Thursday morning and will bring another quick-hitting shot of cold air. It may also bring the chance for a few flakes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NAM-24.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8431\" alt=\"NAM 2\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NAM-24.png\" width=\"304\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NAM-24.png 304w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NAM-24-273x300.png 273w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 304px) 100vw, 304px\" \/><\/a>Highs Thursday may not get above freezing for many.<\/p>\n<p>Farther down the road&#8230; the pattern continues to show itself as one that wants to go toward extreme for January. We get an arctic front in here late this weekend and that&#8217;s the beginning of it all. Look at the 500mb setup from the GFS&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/GFS25.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8435\" alt=\"GFS\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/GFS25.png\" width=\"640\" height=\"627\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Folks&#8230; that is just a brutal run of the model as it brings the polar vortex south toward the states&#8230; relaxes it for a winter storm&#8230; the brings the vortex into the Great Lakes.<\/p>\n<p>Based on that model run&#8230; check out where temps wind up as the PV drops into the Lakes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/GFS-215.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8436\" alt=\"GFS 2\" src=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/GFS-215.png\" width=\"448\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/GFS-215.png 448w, https:\/\/kyweathercenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/GFS-215-300x291.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/a>I am ONLY showing that map to illustrate the capabilities this pattern has for January.
