It’s another windy day across the bluegrass state with gusts approaching 35mph at times. This will continue to knock a lot of our leaves down and that’s not a good thing since we are nearing our peak of fall colors.

The winds are the story of today and a winter pattern will be the story of next week as a huge dip in the jet stream engulfs the eastern half of the country.

The latest GFS seems to have a decent handle on things…

Notice I said a “decent” handle on things and not a perfect one. I think the low to our east is much more wrapped up than what the model above is showing and the initial low may end up tracking across far southeastern Kentucky.

What would it all mean for us?

– Rain and wind increase quickly late Monday night into Tuesday as the first low passes through. Temps will tank into the 40s by the end of the day.

– A secondary low cranks to our east Wednesday and will throw some showers back into the Ohio Valley. Highs will struggle to get out of the 40s.

– Northwesterly winds will keep clouds and COLD showers around late Wednesday into Thursday.

– The air is likely not cold enough to produce flakes around here… but it may get pretty darn close and will have to be watched. I do think the mountains of southeastern Kentucky can get in on some wet snows.

I can’t stress enough that the fall pattern is LIKELY a sign of things to come with a real possibility of winter getting started very early this year.

Many of the forecast models are also hinting at another winter looking trough digging in here for the week after next…

Winter lovers… you have got to be loving this pattern.

Take care.

Good Saturday afternoon everyone.
