Good Wednesday evening gang. As we watch showers and thunderstorms work in from the west.. I wanted to talk a little more about next week. The models continue to advertise a big time shot of cold air across the eastern half of the country. How it all happens changes from run to run.

I took a look at today’s run of the European Model and the upper air reminded me of a pattern from 18 years ago…



There are some key differences there as the 1993 setup had a deeper and colder trough and was about two weeks later into the month. Still… it’s not a horrible match.

Regardless, I want to stress just how hard it is to get snow around here in October. This is all just eye candy and for fun right now, so let’s not get too carried away. It certainly is making for some interesting forecasting and has my attention. That’s saying something for this early in the year.

I will have a full update later tonight. Until then… track some rain in from the west…
