The last few days of the Summer of 2010 are going out in a blaze of glory… or should I just leave it at a BLAZE?! A September heat wave is taking hold of the Ohio Valley this week and we are not to be left out of the hot party. As a matter of fact… there is the chance we approach some record highs before the heat wave comes to an end late this week.

Let’s start it out with the news of today…

High temps will come down some today across the eastern half of the state while the west bakes…. AGAIN. Highs in the east will be in the middle 80s and we will see temps get hotter the farther west you live from there. Readings back into the lower 90s are likely in the west.

Tuesday will see temps soar back toward 90 or just beyond across the whole state. The ground is very dry and this means temps will outdo what the models are saying. Some middle 90s are VERY likely across the western half of the state.

A weak front dips toward us from the north Wednesday and this may come close enough to bring some clouds and even a scattered shower or storm…
NAM Wednesday Evening

The chances are NOT great… but the clouds may keep temps down a few degrees from Tuesday highs. When talking about the rain odds… why is this scene from Dumb and Dumber coming to my mind…

Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: Not good as in, one out of a hundred?
Mary: I’d say more like one out of a million.
Lloyd: [smiles] So you’re telling me there’s a chance!

The heat will really build in here for Thursday and Friday and those are the days when records may be in jeopardy. Take a look at the GFS Ensembles temp anomalies for Thursday and Friday…

That is just flat out ugly looking!! Temps into the 90s are a good bet for these two days. The good news is a cold front will move through here Friday night and Saturday. The GFS and Canadian Models both suggest a big time cool down for the weekend and they both give us the threat for some showers and storms along the front. The European model bounces around with each run and the latest run has a huge cutoff low pressure bringing showers and cool temps for several days in a row. We shall see.

No matter what… this is going to be a hot week! Have a great Monday and take care.

Good Monday everyone.
