<\/p>\nGood Tuesday everyone. Temps across much of the state really took off on Monday and a big reason for that is the dry ground we have out there. We take a quick look at that and let you know if we are going to be getting some stuff to fall from the sky anytime soon.<\/p>\n
When talking about temps during the summer and early fall months… soil moisture plays a huge roll in determining where afternoon temps wind up. With a wet ground and lush vegetation… temps often come in cooler than they normally would with a certain air mass. The opposite is the case when we have a dry ground… and that is what much of the region currently has. <\/p>\n
Temps around here Monday were a GREAT illustration of how soil moisture impacts temps. Highs hit 90 across the northern part of the state as readings across the south only hit the low 80s. Take a look at the rainfall departure across the state for the past 30 days and you will see exactly what i’m talking about…<\/p>\n

I don’t think I have a lot more that needs to be said about that as the map really sums it up quite well.<\/p>\n
Today should see something similar playing out in terms of temps…<\/p>\n

The thing that will make today and Wednesday a bit more tricky will be a better chance of seeing some clouds in here\u00a0as a weak front stalls out just to our north. There is even the smallest chance for a stray shower or storm across the north during this time.<\/p>\n
A stronger system will move in here later Thursday into very early Friday. Low pressure will move across the northern Ohio Valley and will drag a cold front across the region. This looks to once again be a rather moisture starved system that only manages to produce some scattered showers and thunderstorms. It is a rather vigorous low so I will be watching to see if it can spawn some strong storms. Here is the NAM for Thursday afternoon…<\/p>\n

I admit… the pattern has had the look of one that wants to go wetter around here… but it refuses to pull the trigger. Let’s hope it can get a itchy trigger finger soon.<\/p>\n
