Good Sunday, folks. The winter storm in progress may end up as a crippling storm for many areas of Kentucky. Significant amounts of ice, sleet and snow are likely through Monday. For some… this will be a full blown ice storm before the transition to sleet and snow.<\/p>\n

Freezing rain accumulations from .25″-1″ will be possible for several areas of the state. That would be more than enough to bring down trees and power lines. How much freezing rain you get will depend on exactly when the transition to sleet and snow takes place. That won’t be a uniform change throughout the area, but one that spreads from northwest to southeast. The worst of the winter storm comes this evening into early Monday.<\/p>\n

Sleet and snow accumulations may end up between 4″ and 8″ for much of the state. If snow takes over sooner than expected… those numbers would be higher. Gusty winds of 35mph will be likely through early Monday and that will help to cause power issues.<\/p>\n

This is a dangerous winter storm for the entire state. I will be at work through the entire event and have frequent live updates on WKYT-TV. We will also have wall to wall coverage if necessary with a full staff on hand for team weather coverage.<\/p>\n

Help the weather world out by posting the weather conditions where you live. Frequent updates during such a storm will really help us out in determining how the precipitation types are playing out.<\/p>\n
