Good Thursday to one and all. We have had a very nice stretch of weather since the flooding rains of this past weekend. It looks like we get in on some more of the nice weather for a few more days before some changes arrive to start the weekend. Those changes may be introduced by some booming thunderstorms Friday night.

In the short term… our day will start with a dying band of showers and thunderstorms across the north. These may be long gone by sun up. This will set us up for a very nice May day. High temps will be in the upper 70s with a partly to mostly sunny sky.

A warm front will swing northward overnight allowing for a hot Friday as high temps will make a run toward 90 degrees in many areas. Winds will crank as well ahead of a cold front that will be chugging our way by Friday evening and night. A squall line of thunderstorms will likely develop along and ahead of this front and some of these may become severe. Damaging winds and hail would be the main threats from the storms that go up… especially across the north.

Here is the area the Storm Prediction Center is watching for Friday and Friday night…

Once that front goes through there… temps will take a tumble. Highs this weekend will struggle to get past the low 60s under sunny skies. Some upper 30s may even be possible by Sunday morning.

I mentioned in my last update that the REAL warm air will not get too far away from us and try to fight back in here early next week. The setup next week is one that can produce some rounds of thunderstorms around here that can bring some more heavy rains. That is certainly NOT what we want to hear… but it is something we should watch for.

Here is a sampling of the GFS for next week…

Check out the rain totals this run of the model is printing out for the period Tuesday through Thursday morning of next week…

Again… thats  situation we should watch out for as heavy rain and strong storms may become a problem.

Have a great Thursday and take care everyone.
