Good Wednesday to one and all. Our work week is halfway over and it’s all downhill from here toward the weekend. The weather has been behaving beautifully of late and this is giving me some confidence that my thoughts for fall and winter are on the right track.

The air that moves in here for the upcoming weekend will really get those cold weather loving juices flowing. Before then… we still have this monster of a cutoff upper low to deal with. This bad boy has been going strong across the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes for several days now and has a few more days to go before it FINALLY leaves us alone.

Here is how the low looks on a computer model…

Now, check out how this thing looked on satellite Monday…

How wild is that? One has to admire the power of mother nature and, if you’re a fan of winter, you should be loving these cutoff lows in the fall. As I mentioned a few weeks ago… mother nature is in a nasty mood and that looks to carry us well into the coming winter.

The same upper low will continue to send some clouds across our sky today and some of these clouds can produce some sprinkles or showers. Winds will crank up again as highs hang out in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Some morning showers will be possible on Thursday before skies clear out for a few hours. Highs will hit the 70-75 degree range.

The clearing will be short lived as a fast moving cold front swings in here Thursday night. Clouds will increase and some scattered showers are a good bet. Winds are likely to crank up into Friday as MUCH colder air surges in here. The European Model shows the impressive weekend cold blast…

Highs on Friday will stay in the low to mid 60s, but those gusty winds will make it feel even cooler. Some clouds will move back in later in the day as a disturbance drops in from the northwest. This should touch off some sprinkles or light showers at some point in the east Friday night. Honestly, this is a winter looking setup.

The cold air then really takes hold for Saturday and Sunday. Highs for many will stay in the 50s with overnight lows dropping into the 30s for Sunday and Monday mornings especially. I keep waiting for some other sources to talk about the chance for frost and I’m not seeing it yet. Be warned… the chance for some frost is real!

The weather into next week looks awesome as readings warm back closer to normal.

Have a great Wednesday and take care.
