Good afternoon everyone. That was a rather exciting morning across the state with strong and severe thunderstorms working through. Things are calming down and cooling down this afternoon as we get set for some on and off showers for the next several days and a real deal shot of cold air.

Rainfall today will be mainly focused across the eastern half of the state and some of these rains will be heavy at times. Speaking of heavy rains… some areas got hammered with a lot of water Sunday into early today. Western Kentucky picked up 2″-3″ in some areas Sunday with much of central and northern Kentucky getting 1″-3″ this morning. The mesonet sites show some areas picked up a little more than that…

Today’s Rainfall

Current Temps

We also had a 30+ degree temp gradient from west to east across the estate earlier today. Temps spiked to 80 in the east before the rains got into town and now readings are crashing.

The big closed upper level low will continue to SLOWLY work across the area over the next few days. Isolated to scattered showers will be possible from Tuesday through Thursday as temps stay in the upper 60s to low 70s for highs.

A MAJOR blast of cold air is on tap from Friday into the coming weekend. The air being forecast by the models to dip in here is air you don’t see very often this time of year. Here is the GFS 850mb temps for Saturday…

That’s a cold look and one that a month down the road could produce some lake effect flakes around here. As is… highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s look like a strong bet this weekend.

In the meantime… let’s go shower tracking…

Have a great rest of your Monday and take care.
