Good Monday to one and all and thanks for dropping by the center. The new week is starting off on a rather soggy note as a wall of water works across the state. The big upper level low causing the rainy weather is a slow mover and will stick around for a few more days. We will then focus on the coldest air of the young fall season for the weekend.
This slow moving closed low continues to work eastward across the Ohio Valley today. This thing is looking even slower than I expected and should impact our weather all the way into Wednesday.
Time for a breakdown…
– Rain and thunderstorms will work eastward through central and eastern Kentucky today. Locally heavy rains are likely. The west will dry out some with isolated showers possible. Temps today will really struggle to get past the low and mid 60s for rainy areas.
– Tuesday into Wednesday will feature a mix of sun and clouds with some scattered showers rotating around our upper low. This should be a rather breezy period with high temps ranging from the mid 60s for rainy areas
to around 70 for those who get more sun.
– Thursday will see temps spike well into the 70s as our winds really pick up. Some afternoon clouds will increase ahead of a sharp cold front that arrives Thursday night.
– The air behind this front should be the coldest we have had since back in the spring. Look at the temp departures coming from the GFS Ensembles…
– That’s a very cold look from a smoothed out average. This has a shot of delivering the first 30s of fall to many areas by Saturday and Sunday mornings. The 5 letter F word (frost
) MAY come into play if everything works out.
– This will be a very chilly start to the month of October!
Back to the weather of today and we have you set up to track conditions across the state…
