Good Saturday everyone… I hope your weekend is getting started off on a good note. Parts of the state are starting the weekend out with… drum roll please… more snow! I have picked up a fresh 2″-4″ in my part of the world as of this writing from a hefty snow band that continues to work westward across the region.
Areas that get under this snow band will pick up a general 1″-3″ of snow. Areas in the northeast that already have a few inches on the ground can get totals closer to 5 inches out of this. The snows will taper off some today and you can track it all right here…
Another round of snows will likely develop overnight into early Sunday and this can drop another inch or two in some spots.
Here are a few weather cams for you to check out…
Lexington
Pikeville
I-75 Northern Ky Near Covington
Ashland
We have the next storm to track coming early next week. Will it come far enough north to bring another round of snows to the region? We will tackle that question with the next update. Take care.
Ravenna has the same this morning as we did last night…..nothing! We were under the snow bands last night and again this morning, so I guess we have several inches of verga. Chris, at least, you are seeing some of the action.
The line of snow finally made it to east louisville this morning. We’ve picked up half an inch with this quick burst. Looks to be winding down. Any luck coming our way Tues/wed with this next storm? Or is it going south and east? So many bigtime storms we’ve missed out on this year. Sigh…
Nice pics, Chris. WE haven’t gotten the first flake here….guess we are too far south and west. Just as well. Going to Lexington to visit the mother in law in the hospital.
Looking forward to your thought on the next storm. But the snow pics are beautiful. thanks for sharing!
have a great Saturday, all!
We have a beautiful sugar coating of snow this morning in NW Woodford Co. According to TWC, this storm is 1900 miles across! We’re getting in on the fringes of one end and the other end is already way out in the Atlantic! That’s wild ….
Got a nice little dusting here in Lexington (Tates Creek HS area). Not sure there was really any need for a WWA.
Sitting here in Johnson County this AM looking at about 1 1/2 inches of new snow. Back in November (11/23/2009), I printed off CB’s Winter Forecast & have been referring to it every day since. Talk about being right on the money! Brings a smile to my face to know a Met that knows what he is talking about. Thanks CB.
8.8 earthquake in Chile. Hawaii under a tsunami warning as result. Tsunami expected to hit this afternoon.
light snow made it as far SW as knox co. currently at 10 am we had a light sugar coating, that has mostly melted but some light snow is still falling…
Time to move on to next weeks storm….
In Lawrenceburg this morning at 7:30…had just a bit over 1″ of light, fluffy snow…main streets okay, neighborhood streets snow-covered. C/Ky becoming known as the home of the 1′ snows….
i feel like this winter is preety much over, i doubt we get another snow over an inch, if we even get another one of those…
This is awful…what will those people do? Do they evacuate?
Why are we having so many earthquakes at this time?
I have to agree with you on that!
I was wondering the same question.. Makes ya wonder, especially if you have christian values.
CNN also said they are watching the California coast also.
We also have about 2 inches of snow in Pikeville, enough to make everything look beautiful.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/quake_tsunami
they have an advisory all the way up to Alaska so basically from south americaall the way up the alaskan coast according to TWC
What a worthless effort by Kentucky today. They should be ashamed of themselves. Losing to Tennessee is noy acceptable.
All my snow evaporated!
Normally I would agree but:
1) officiating stunk
2) every tem we play treats it like the final 4 and tennessee did today.
3) We erased a 19 point deficit and hopefully learned a few things.
4) Calapari will have them ready for bot the sec and ncaa tournament. They needed a 2nd loss before those begin.
5) I hope it snows Tuesday.
I spell like Rolo. Not a good thing.
The quake actually sloshed around the water violently in Lake Ponchartrain. Bizarre.
Agree with Mike 100%, except for #5.
I 2 agree that was one of the worst officiated games I have ever seen! Wonder what it took for Tenn to get all those calls? As they say it is hard to win when it is 8 on 5!
first off the officals LET THEM PLAY WHICH I LIKED,
2nd COACH CAL was lost the first half of game, he had no clue how to attack the zone.
last 10 minutes he finally got it and started attacking the lane and pushing the ball.
that said thias was a big time game that will do nothing but help us in tourney, we showed we got a big time basketball team by coming all the way back from 16 down.
today loss goes on coach CAL, it was simple as u saw in 2nd half attack kick out or take to rim, as u saw Darrius miller hitting the outside shot too.
have no wqorries bout the players, but I DO HAVE MY WORRIES IN PRESSURE SITUATIONS about coach CAL.
What game were u watching? You mean they let Tennessee players play! There was no way Wall charged on that play towards the end, and when williams went down no one touched him, he fell on his own!!!! Kentucky is hated by everyone coaches, refs, top ncaa officials even fans here in ky. There is nothing wrong with cal, without him we don’t have a team, with patterson, wall, and cousins on it. We have that mess we had last year with billy g and another nit tourney. You watch and see Cal will be SEC coach of the year!!!!
Rolo says
have no wqorries bout the players, but I DO HAVE MY WORRIES IN PRESSURE SITUATIONS about coach CAL.
I say
We would have never come back from 19 down if Cal couldn’t handle pressure.
The refs let tenn play, not UK. You should worry about the players because they are a bunch of freshman that need to listen to their coach, the man you say can’t handle pressure.
How sad that some of you are satisfied with moral victories.
I say EXACTLY RIGHT,without coach Cal, they DO NOT come back from 19 down! You know after last season, I am tickled to death to be 27-2, and on our way to be a #1 seed in the NCAA tourney, They will be all right, all they need to do is listen to coach, and play with that hunger and desire that brought them back today. I am a die hard fan win or lose. I look at it this way however far they go it will be better than last season. And as you know with a coach like Cal, we won’t be rebuilding we will be reloading! Since after all this is a weather blog what do you guys see for next weeks big storm?
The only reason I will be satisfied with a moral victory is if we win the whole thing. Otherwise it would have been a wasted loss if we learned nothing from it.
I did not watch the game, but I did just check the box score. UK had 18 fouls and The Vols had 24, hmmmm doesn’t seem like that stat indicates the refs called a favorable game for the Vols. Also it looks like UK shot like crap. Maybe the fact that they can’t shoot is the problem!!
Rolo hit it on the head. The refs didn’t make UK suck it up from behind the arc. UT was ready to play. UK shot 27 FTs and UT 17. Fouls call 24 on UT on 18 on UK. Plain and simple, we weren’t ready to play the first half. DIdn’t get back on D. Quit making whiny excuses.
I’m not totally optomistic about tueaday chances. I hope the front moves farther north to put us in the mix. If not winter is over and I move on to spring and summer.
Are you a tennessee fan? must be! either that or louiserville
Not even close. UK all the way. Just everytime we lose, it has to be the refs or some other reason. We lost today. Plain and simple. John Wall brought us back from 19 not Cal, he took over.
for pete’s sake people this is a weather blog, not a sports blog..i hope ky looses every game they play..please keep this about weather.. 😀
I agree with you on most of this. The one thin you have to remember, is that the Coach cannot go out there and physically do anything. Coaches tell their players what to do. It is up to the players to get it done. There were alot of bad calls both ways, but that is going to happen in sports. You can’t always blame the officials. UK is 27-2, not the other way around. Suck it up and move on. More important games ahead. Don’t fret over this game, its done and over with.
Then go join some NWS blog or something.
Just got a light dusting overnight (Harrison Co), was hoping for more than that. Looking forward to this so called “Big One” that everyone has been talking about.
Chris, do you think that it will happen???
Surely being a Wildcat fan is not a prerequisite for coming to this blog?
All are welcome, but only Cats fans are taken seriously.
wow, that makes me feel awfully unwelcome. and I’ve been watching this blog for a long time. wow. harsh.
Shut your mouth and get off this blog you idiot
You can’t blame an 18-0 run on the refs.
Period.
No excuse for that nonsense. Learn to shoot a stinkin’ three!
Do we really think this team is a number one seed?
You guys take sports way to seriously.
Aren’t these the type of comments Chris threatened to ban people for. Personally calling someone out for a basketball game played by college kids. How ridiculous. I had come on here hoping to see something about weather. Oh well.
Absolutely not!
For crying out loud people, EVERYONE who loves weather & behaves decently is welcome here. I’m a UK fan, but please don’t make me ashamed to be one. UT played a good game & did what they had to do to win. Congratulations to them…now let’s move on.
Oh yeah – Kansas lost too. Anyone can have a bad day.
My job brought me to Letcher County a few weeks ago when the snow was hitting hard. I think the road department was snoozing at the time, lol. I almost slid off in my ambulance.
Really that is wild
It really does Bernie.
What happened to our weather blog? Come on people…IT IS JUST a game. The cats are the best and we know it so now move on!
The hockey game is tomorrow, folks.
Glad the tsunami in Hawaii petered out.
hey buddy, it is a free country, if we want to talk about b ball we will, no one said anything about you or your team, unless it was tenn, so don’t say things like hoping ky loses every game. People on here are just as passionate about the weather as we are about our cats, here in ky weather and the wildcats are what makes good conversation pieces, until someone comes along and says something like what was just said, and gets everyone upset then they are going to take offense! Sure everyone is welcome and I enjoy chatting with everybody, but I am not going to try and curse a team by wishing them bad luck, you could have said something more tasteful than that!
What about the record holding 9.5 quake that hit Chile in 1960? It’s not a good area if you don’t like earthquakes.
graphic of recent earthquakes on a map… Chile is basically covered.

Even Mr Bailey posts the “I hate Louisville” pics on his blog, not sure that sports are completely off limits here. On the other hand, UK’s 3 point shooting is as ice cold as the weather.
Our deck is coated in ice. We are getting some freezing drizzle and it’s making everything very slick. I’m in eastern Bourbon County.
30 degrees and freezing fog in ne bourbon co. cars are icing over.
Freezing mist in Lexington out Leestown Rd.
>> Why are we having so many earthquakes at this time?
There’s an average of almost twenty 7.0 or greater earthquakes per year. It only seems like a lot because one happened to hit a very bad area with a lot of poor people (poor financially and in preparedness) and therefore hypersensitivity in the media.
Number of 7.0+ earthquakes per year starting in 1900:
http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/eqlists/7up.html
If weather matters here it is freezing drizzle all the way from Lexington to Salt Lick in Bath CO
Starting to snow in Pikeville,29 degrees.I got an email we might see a couple of inches here by tommorow.
Right now roads are just wet with a mist falling, but car was covered with ice.Could be an interesting night, weather wise.
Be gone evil one, you are not welcomed here. If you didn’t watch the game then you can’t comment. I’m not going to say the officials cost us the game since if we had shot better we would have won, but they blew a lot of calls and let the Vols play and not the Cats.
Like the Lexington cam…can you say freezing rain? 🙂
It’s snowing again in Ashland. YAY! 🙂
I am trying this once more, have posted this 3 times but ole moderation must have ate the others. Getting a light mix of sleet\snow in Floyd co. sidewalk and deck getting a nice little coating
The camera in Lexington looks like it has frozen over!
freezing drizzle mixed with snow, cars and porches are ice, the weather channel is useless, thank goodness for CB
freezing drizzle, snow mixed here in knox co. as well, everything is glazed over…Hmmm…WWA criteria IMO…side roads are glazed as well…
sorry i offended you all..:(..i’m just not a sports fan, but i do enjoy keeping up with cb and his weather blog, and today’s WEATHER blog was used for SPORTS..sorry again for having an opinion…
