Good evening gang. A nice little disturbance is working quickly southeastward toward the state and will move through overnight into Wednesday. This should bring an increase in snows overnight and I am a little more impressed with this system than I was earlier. This looks like it can bring a widespread 1″-3″ snowfall to most of central and eastern Kentucky tonight and early Wednesday.
This should create more snow and ice covered roads just in time for the morning commute. You can track the snows here…
This little system may be an overachiever for a few spots… especially across the east and northeast so that is something we will have to watch for.
Snow showers and flurries will continue on and off through Wednesday and into Thursday for many areas. This can lay down further light accumulations.
Looking down the road… shoot the GFS and get it over with. It looks out of touch with the weekend and early next week systems as the European and Canadian models are working in tandem right now. This could bring another snow threat in here for Saturday with a bigger storm potential for Monday and Tuesday.
More on all that later tonight. Take care.

Thanks Chris for the update! Looking forward to you views of the weekend and Mon/Tue.
Thanks for the update Chris. I don’t comment often but I drop by several times a day to read your blog and everyone elses thoughts.
Freezing rain/drizzle at 24*. What’s with that?????
Looks like Ashland could bear the brunt of this for KY? I hope so, I need one more snow day!
Can’t wait to hear more news on the upcoming storm for next week. I love your blog, keep up the good work!
the gfs has 50’s and thunderstorms for sun-mon we’ll see how that pans out I have a feeling in a few days we will be laughing at what the gfs had.
i think we should shoot the gfs. it is always so messed up. it goes from being in our favor at 00z to not at 06z. back and forth. we need to kill it. down with the gfs!!!!!!!
WOULD LOVE THIS!!! 😀
Radar filling in nicely to the north. Looking like the northeastern corner of the state (Morehead to Ashland) could be in for some heavy snow here in a couple of hours.
Freezing drizzle in Berea…
What can I expect for Harlan County tonight? Should we see some more snow? Any answers are greatly appreciated! Thanks and God bless!!!
Mitch are you saying you think the gfs maybe right we may see 50’s thunderstorms?
plz god no more snow I am sick of it….
Snowing again in Pikeville.
I am so glad to see that other people see that too with the GFS; can someone post links to the other models? I am with Chris, I dont think we have seen our biggest snow of the season in the South yet
Thank you, Chris, for keeping us updated. You really let us know what to watch out for.
For all you people who want more snow, please put up a huge fan and blow mine your way. 🙂
Just north of Hazard and I don’t want any more snow.
there is a good euro on this page:
http://vortex.plymouth.edu/ and click on the ECMWF NA 500mb/SLP
By the looks of the Radar, Ashland to Pikeville looks like GROUND ZERO!! for some heavy snow in the next several hrs…
where does chris work? what is the link?
If anyone in eastern Kentucky is complaining about snowfall this year, check out the graph over on the NWS Jackson website. Jackson is up to 48″ for the season. Talk about a snow drought, back in the winter of 92, only 6 plus inches was recorded.
Went to the store and there’s some freezing drizzle here in NW Lexington. Roads are fine, just annoying on the windshield.

Christmas Vegas is on.I just had a root canal what a night!!!!!!!
Christmas Vacation is on Squirrel and I just had a root canal what a night!!!
I hope so Tim it has been snowing.
Marsha – I think he is saying just the opposite…that the GFS has lost it’s mind somehow by thinking we will have 50 degrees this weekend. At least that’s the way I read it. TG didn’t have us getting higher than 30* for another week on the 5p news tonight (in Lexington) and I think you are generally a little cooler than us.
🙂
(got sent to moderation 1st time)
Marsha, I don’t think so…I think he meant the GFS temporarily lost it’s mind and there’s no way we are going to see 50 degrees this weekend.
🙂
heavy snow with about 1.5 inches of new snow here in ft thomas
I would LOVE 50 and storms on Monday. I’m tired of the grimy, slushy crap.
Watching the Cats. I used to live in MS and have been to two UK/State games at the Humph. There is no better b-ball fan base in the SEC, they love it, but they don’t know anything about b-ball. The refs are always wrong down there.
Around the beginning of March, look for a monster. thats all i am gonna say. GFS longrange is consistently showing a low moving up the east coast, and it looks so much like the 93′ superstorm.

Like waiting for a kidney stone to pass…
I love this blog, however, with that being said……I can not wait until it is back to the boring days of summer when Chris updates daily to tell us that the next day is going to be more beautiful than the day before. I am ready for some sneak peaks into what we can expect April, May, June. Come on Chris, just give us a tease of what’s ahead for spring and summer.
snowing in Corbin…roads covered again. It’s light but definitely coming down.
Snow flying again here in southwestern Fleming County.
It’s snowing steadily here at East Point (Johnson/Floyd line).
Nothing in Richmond yet, so perhaps it will be clear enough for school on Thursday 🙂
That’s a long ways off. Maybe it will happen but it probably won’t.
Very heavy snow here!
It’s a mini blizzard outside.
1/2 inch snow since 9pm in Morgan County…snow still coming down at midnight. How about those Cats? That was an ugly win, but a win is one more win that North Carolina won’t get (NC was hammered by GTech tonight).
Looks like a line of precip is filling in a little bit further West of the main stuff in Indiana… Could make the A.M. commute interesting once again in good’ole Lexington!!!
Snow is really coming down here in Bath County and it’s 24*.
Roads are snow covered again here just north of Hazard. Roads are slick!
I love how the snow stayed and din’t melt today! Also has anyone else noticed how the moon is so beautiful shining on the snow despite it being covered by clouds? Imagine how bright it would be on the snow if there weren’t any clouds.
I have some snow pictures on my gardening blog if any of you would like to look at them. Just click on my name.
Jake
Beautiful pictures, Jake. Thanks for sharing them.
Hmmm… beginning of next week is going to be a toughy to call. 0z Canadian went way warmer and farther north but the Euro held the course. I’m interested to see what the Canadian ensembles look like when they come out.
Thank you very much. My favorite is the one with the three Spruce’s.
Jake
I agree with RhondaB Jake, your photos are lovely and I enjoyed reading your blog. Thanks for letting us all enjoy them.
