Good afternoon everyone. Let me start out by saying thanks for all you guys do for the blog… it is certainly appreciated. Heavy snows continue to move across the state this afternoon. The heaviest band of snow moved through here earlier today and dumped a lot of snow on a lot of people.
Here is a look at some of the NWS snowfall reports. Keep in mind they are time stamped meaning that was the snowfall through a specific time…

Wraparound snows will move back into most of central and eastern Kentucky this afternoon as our low pressure workes to the east. This will result in more locally heavy snowfall… especially across the north and northeast. Widespread snow showers and squalls will kick up this evening and hang tough into Tuesday and Wednesday. Follow all the action right here..
How much more snow am I expecting? Here ya go…
In addition to the snows… the winds have been cranking up out there creating a ton of blowing and drifting snows. Travel is not the best in the world and will REALLY become hazardous once the sun sets.
Keep doing what you are doing and posting the conditions from where you live. I will have more updates later today into this evening so make sure you check back.
By the way… it may snow again Friday and Saturday. ![]()
Take care.

Thanks a bunch Chris. Looks like a few days off this week. Might as well enjoy what we get. Be safe everyone!
It looks like the roads in Boyle County are in bad shape. Main roads are pretty good. It is snowing! They wind is really blowing and it is actually pretty.
Cold, windy, partly sunny and snowshowers from time to time. Havent had anymore accumulating snow since the early morning 2 inches..but the road I live on is snow and crunchy ice covered..so when the sun goes down its gonna get rough, esp. on roads that havent been treated…
Thanks Chris for all you do…I had a dusting to half-inch at my house in Isom (Letcher County)…sun is out melting most of the snow, leaving some on the cold northern sides. Based on radar, the snow seems to be forming again with the help of the upslope flow. Stay safe on the roads.
In the Frankfort/Lburg area, you’re hard pressed to find a true 4″ snow depth right now. And the main brunt of this storm is through. So calling for an additional 4-8″ here is very risky. But thanks for the update Chris.
It’s still coming down out there pretty good, and the worst part is that WIND. Man, it’s stiff. Making everything much worse.
Gonna be hard to measure the snow falling now with all the wind, but I’d be surprised to see an additional 3-6″ on top of the 3″ in Lexington.
6” and counting here in ft thomas…
Sun right now in northern Rowan Co. We have about 5 inches. Wind is blowing pretty good.
Thanks for all you do Chris!
In North Vernon, IN we have measured a little over 6 inches. And some spots as high as 9. Keep up the good work. We at the Lowe’s DC have been religiously watching your site.
Heavy, blowing snow in Lexington.
We have 3″ to 4″ ish inches- drifting, so no real way to tell. Still, if the heaviest snows already happened, my guess is we will end up with 6″ total in north Richmond. Need less wind for snowman building tomorrow 🙂
Thanks, Chris, for always keeping us up-to-date & working so hard to do so for us!:)
I’m a bit late today,as I have a hubby w/ a terrible ear/sinus infection and a little one that isn’t feeling too ‘rambunctious’ herself!:(
We have had our usual 2″ here in Bardstown/Nelson Co. A bit hard to tell, as the winds have been pretty wild all morning, so it’s hard to get an accurate measurement, but that is what it looks like to me ATM. Roadways were so-so earlier this morning when I chose to venture out around 9am. Only one salt/plow truck in our subdivision so far today, which really didn’t make an impact, as there wasn’t that much to scrape off to begin with. It is a solid sheet of ice underneath what little they were able to dig into, though, plus heavier snow bands have come through since then, creating pretty bad driving conditions. (Even my neighbor, a “lottery tix fanatic” hasn’t made her normal 18 trips/hr. up & down the street?! She’s been past once…that is how I know it’s BAD! LOL!;))
Here is hoping that all my blogging buddies receive the snowfall they’ve been wishing for!:)
Nothing in Martin Co. Dry roads due to the wind.
Wxman…That total for our area states 3-6. And wasn’t that suppose to be totals through tomorrow evening? Just wondering.
congrats bubba g 😀
In LEX:
At 12:30pm on my way out to lunch, the skies were sunny, no snow falling and the roads were wet, but in great condition. At 1:30pm, it was so snowy, visibility was decreased significantly and roads were already getting snow covered again!
So far, an unofficial 3 inches of snow in North Lexington.
Does anyone see any hope for us poor snow straved people in Se Ky lol??????
I work in Frankfort and there is every bit of 5 inches on the ground with snow coming down as I type, dont forget this current pattern is not the last one to hit our areas, so dont use it pulling out to base whether or not you will get more snow. Everytning indicates more snow dropping down from the north into the overnight, bring it on baby.
Is that aa Bubba Buster lol ???????

nope Chris above map says additinal snowfall.
Dry as a bone here, but I have a suspicion that the event has only started.
Wow, finally caught up with reading the blog. Seems like some got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. 😉 It’s snowing hard and fast in downtown Winchester, and I have more than 4 inches in my sheltered yard. Sun was blindingly bright at about 11, but didn’t last long.
I wanted to say that road crews in town and in Clark Co were working hard to prepare for this event. Brine trucks hit the roads Friday afternoon and covered the area. It’s just luck that the snow began here at about 5 am and we had white out conditions by 7 am. Plows can’t be everywhere at once, and that brine is not magical stuff. NOTHING can keep up with that rate of snowfall. Thanks, road guys! I know you get paid, but I appreciate it anyhow.
Chris, will you clarify if your snow fall map above is additional to what is on the ground as of your posting at 12:47. Amazing and cool if true, but highly unexpected, hence some of wondering.
As always, thanks for doing this, love it love it love it!
Ah, the Usual Suspect!
no snow here in mingo co wv either.
I live in Kimper (center of Pike Co.) we have no snow at all on the groud @ 2:00pm 2/15.
Boyle County- 30* Heavy Snow
Moderate snow coming down in Pikeville nothing on the ground wind is cranking up.
24 in Garrard with heavy snow. Had to go to Lexington this AM for Dr. appt. Lucky to arrive intact; the roads were awful. By the time I left, the main roads were incredibly clear.
Nothing but sun and flurries for most of the day here up until about 10 minutes ago.. started pouring. Looks like a pretty good batch forming over Perry, Leslie, Clay, etc..
Upslope usually kicks in for us in these types of situations, we’ll see.
Inch or less so far. Although the sun has melted some of it.
At least he’s brave enough about going out on a limb.
I am in agreement with the others. I live in NE Louisville where i posted we recieved 7″ of NEW SNOW. Chris has us in the 4-8″ more snow through Wednesday! That would be quite an incredible snowfall amount if true. So, maybe somebody can let me in on how we will get this much more snow the next two days? Are the squalls going to be that heavy and signifigant? I haven’t looked at the latest maps. So, if anybody can help me out, that would be great. Thanks again Chris for all the updates!
Our biggest snow around here was six inches since 1998, so if we got above that, I will call it a dome buster 😉
We have over four inches now (easily) so pretty good chance we will bust it.
Great job as always Chris. We had 2 + in downtown Jackson when I got up at 7:00am this morning.
Nothing in Martin in Floyd county are we going to get any out of this next round tonight?
Wehave about 2 on the ground. Blowing around, but I don’t see us getting 3 more, unless the upslope really kicks in.
Bubba, I am glad you are finally getting some good snow! Hope you take pics of the snowman and let us see it!
Chrism, I hope if it snows on Friday and Saturday, the next one gives us here in southern KY another good one. the one we got only served to whet my appetite for another one. Hope to see one more good one before winter is gone. Who know shen we may get any more? 😉
I’m really confused by Chris’ latest map. That would put Lexington at 6-9″ for the total event. Seems very unlikely.
I went out at 11:30 and they hadn’t even scraped or salted 11 but its 99% clear now but the sun did most the work
yeah its better to be over and not under and people not prepared IMO
In the words of (sir) Charles Barkley “this is turrible just turrible” I am done with this S*&# ! we’ve had 1 decent snow all year, all we can get is a dusting less then 1/2inch this go around and everyone around us gets dumped on. oh-well
has to be thru the whole event. cannot see that much moisture coming off lake mi.
So I’m in an area that was forecast for a total of 6-10 inches. Now I’m expected to get an additional 4-8 inches. That would be awesome had I actually gotten anything the first go around. Totals seem a little outlandish to me.
where is the moisture between paducah & b green headed due east or n east will this become wrap around moisture?
I second that! Well said Laura.
my ruler is long gone i’d estimate 8 or so new inches of snow with about 14-16 inches on the ground!
agreed i think 1-3 additional. 4-8 for me in franklin county(no way. lol) that would give me a possible 13 inches total. and that cant possibly be
Just measured…just over 2″ here so far, so if Chris’s additional snowfall map is right I’ll have at least 5″ when it’s all said and done. I’ll take that 🙂
Funny- I said we had about four inches, but I can not really tell what we have since the winds really picked up. We have one foot drifts in some spots, so I guess there is four inches ATM.
If I do not have to got to work tomorrow, we will make snowmen tomorrow…. We may have to harvest snow from the drifts, since some spots are almost bare 😉
Wow. C.B. really overestimated on Pike County. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a snowfall be predicted in that range and then not even see a flurry.
Congrats to everybody all over the state that got snow. Looks like us in SE KY are going to stay dry as a bone for this one.
should we be conserned with the roads refreezing?
You make me sick, Tommy! LOL
Just kidding, but I can’t BELIEVE you have that much snow. I am SO jealous. I think you need to invite us all from the blog over to your place for a “snow party”!
Just out of curiosity, where are you located, Northern KY, right?
Somebody be honest with ol’ Ern. I too am from snow deprived Pike County and we haven’t seen a dang thing yet. Is there any possible way we get accumulation for this storm? Because right now it looks pretty bleak.
Was hoping someone would catch the name! Very Good! lol
Wow, it’s coming down out there….as of now I’ve got a little more than 5 inches here in Bourbon Co…..too bad I gotta go to work….everyone be safe!!
Just wanted to shout out that Scott County Indiana has 10 inches and still snowing from light to sometimes heavy!!!
Well considering Chris is a professional I think I’m going to listen to him. Have wrap around plus a couple more disturbances coming through so I believe it. Look up at Wisc…all coming towards us. Have snow on the ground and lot more coming and people still cry and are pessimistic…just don’t get it.
had no addit accumulation in london since early this morning, only flurries since, are we at least going to get at least another inch.it doesnt look as if there is anymore snow on its way
Moderate snow falling in Berea, looks like we getting close to 3″ now. A winter wonderland! 🙂
new TWEET…WHAT ON EARTH IS NWS IN LOUISVILLE THINKING!! FORECASTING ONLY HALF INCH SNOW TONIGHT…WHAT A TERRIBLE FORECAST…LOL…go gett’m CHRIS!!…lol…lol…
Here in Floyd co. we probably have maybe a 1/4 inch to a 1/2 inch snow on the ground. Had quite a bit of sleet and freezing rain earlier this morning, which cut down on accumalations big time. maybe we will get quite a bit from the upslope, hope so, but I don’t see it happening. Maybe we will get it from the next storm, just have to wait and see. Every one that got snow enjoy! just remember to stay safe and warm out there.
Slow down and give distance. My guys are getting burned up with collision reports. Just because the road is wet or only slightly slush-covered in one spot doesn’t mean there isn’t a three foot drift around the curve waiting on your over confidence… anyhow, the wind is really jamming things up in the Lexington area… there are certain streets with moderate drifting issues and others that are completely passable… please drive safely and pass on this message of good hope!!!! GO SNOW!!!!
TG must be seeing the same thing as Chris as he went from 1-3 in my area to 6-10
we just dont believe it till we see it thats a lot of snow added onto whats already on the ground..
if we pull out another 4-8inches of snow out of that moisture in wi. than chris is a stinking genuis. no me. in lou. is calling for that much. maybe an inch to another inch and a half
Thats pretty much what JKL is forecasting for my area as well, but now I am a bit further to the south…BUT last weeks upslope snows dropped close to 4″ of snow…
where do you see that? that would be nice!!
(eastern Bourbon County)
We are stuck on our hill because the lower 100 yards of our driveway has snow drifts at least two feet high. That dastardly wind is making a real mess of things. I looked in the phone book for “snow plow” or “snow removal”. No such listings. 🙂
We have at least five inches on the areas where the wind hasn’t blown it away or into a massive drift. The wind direction has it going right into the shed for the horses and goat. They aren’t happy. Will the wind change direction and/or ease up a bit tonight?
The NWS got it right in my area of Southern Pike Co. on this one. They actually predicted 1-3 inches last night and today and we have absolutely nothing. So they didn’t get it right, but they got it a lot closer than the blog did this time.
nws has me at inch or less for tonight and then thats all she wrote…is this right..im in frankfort
Chris seems to have fallen back in love with the GFS, because the NAM seems to be dead on with both the performance so far and NWS’s forecast.
WHITE OUT IN FT THOMAS!!!!!!
although chris is usually right! he maybe off on his totals i could see 2-4 but 4-8 holy sh*t id be sitting here with more than 10 inches of snow 🙂
6-10″ on his blog
Ughhh, the weather channel doesn’t give much hope at all.
http://www.weather.com/maps/news/severenow/floater6_large.html
I’m sticking with Chris though!
Can anyone tell me where the mositure fo several more inches of snow will come from? I’m in Jefferson Co, Ky and I just don’t see it happening- although, I would LOVE if it did! As I type, the sun just peaked through the clouds a bit and light snow has tapered off to almost nothing..
O.k. Tommy, you’ve had entirely enough!!…LOL…next yr. you dont get any snow because you’ve got 2 or 3 yrs worth in the last 2 storms…LOL…ENJOY MY FRIEND!!!…:)
i meant 6-8 sorry Tim
“Hey Jasper, you think those snowflakes know where we live and are avoiding us?”
“Say Horace, that’s exactly what they’re doing. You idiot, snowflakes aren’t that smart.”
From my new book, ‘101 Snowflakes’ (at least in my backyard)
Sent in from Valley Station outside Louisville where we barely got 3″ when up the road they got 7″
Thats a Pitiful snowfall map!!!
the low is going to spin couter clockwise to the east north east as it does so alot of the heavy snow will swing in from the north
yeah, probably the radar. 😉
Here is a clip from JKL about the additional snowfall. 1″ or less for my area…no big suprise though.
ACCUMULATIONS AND HEADLINES… ALL HEADLINES WILL BE LEFT AS IS FOR
NOW. WE WILL GO WITH AN ADDITIONAL 2 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW TONIGHT
ALONG AND NORTH OF I-64 WITH GENERALLY 1 TO 3 INCHES TO THE SOUTH.
ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATIONS AROUND LAKE CUMBERLAND SHOULD REMAIN LESS
THAN AN INCH AND THE ADVISORY WILL BE LEFT TO EXPIRE AT 8 PM THERE.
STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL BY DAWN ON TUESDAY WILL APPROACH 10 INCHES NORTH
OF I-64 BUT DROP TO AS LITTLE AS AN INCH OR SO IN THE LOWER
ELEVATIONS OF OUR VIRGINIA BORDER COUNTIES.
You’re not kidding. Here’s my forecast in Morehead (which is supposed to be one of the sweet spots tonight)
Snow this evening will transition to snow showers late. Low 19F. Winds WSW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Snow accumulating 1 to 2 inches.
look at the radar, that wrap around doesn’t appear to be letting up anytime soon
visibility here went from flurries to blizzard in about 5 minutes, the flakes are tiny as i have seen them this winter
this should put cvg at 36 inches on the winter i think
You’re telling me! Here’s my forecast for the Morehead area (which is supposed to be one of the sweet spots tonight)
Snow this evening will transition to snow showers late. Low 19F. Winds WSW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Snow accumulating 1 to 2 inches.
Nothing in viper, south of hazard. Had a good little amount this morning but wear the sun hits it has melted.
I live just north of Hazard. I have at least two inches if not more on the ground, and it’s still snowing. I live on top of a hill, and the wind has been cranking too.
Not much else in my neck of the woods (south of London) since late morning. Still, we ended up with a good 4″ of snow with some nice drifts. Not bad, considering we looked to be out of the game according to some early model runs. I don’t see how we end up with an additional >3″ of snow this evening, as most of the snow seems to be pinwheeling over the eastern counties. BTW, is it too early to talk about next weekend?
BubbaG – So happy that you are getting snow! Here’s to busting that pesky dome! 🙂
Very fine flakes in Lexington.
is it just me, or does more moisture seem to be pulling in from the gulf, and the lakes- in addition to that wrapping around?
Has anyone seen any of the runs for the friday-saturday possibility of snow and if so, what the temps will be like. Will it be another issue with rain, mix, snow? Anyone……?
I am just outside of Flatwoods, Ky we have abt 4 inches of snow on the ground. The sun came out around 1 and now at 4:00 the snow is coming down again. The kids were in school today so when the sun came out that gave the road crews time to get the roads cleared b 4 buses pulled out at 3:00. We have 4 inches but we want more. Bring on more snow. Love your blog Chris.
FINALLY! It’s pouring the snow here in northern Martin County. BIG flakes are falling. Already a dusting in 5 minutes!
Seems maybe from the lakes.
Have about 3-4 inches on the ground and coming down hard right now. Huge snow flakes, blowing wind….
cleaned off walk and 30 minutes later another inch on ground, still NWS-Louisville calls for no more than an one inch tonight .(just to let you know NWS that inch has already fallen in less then an hour ).These folks have to be dropping the ball.
Please blow it to me in Pikeville Lol!!!!
MY FRONT YARD BABY!!!>>> http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd227/coloradofella/snow215.jpg
Wow Tommy you are suppose to share LoL.
Not too impressed in Somerset. Disappointment again!
i hate you lol
I agree, with that- that’s the majority of it, but when you look at the national maps, it looks to me like there is still some pulling in from the gulf.
either way, check out this link. it is amazing to watch the low spin like that- like a tropical system.
Fayette County schools closed tomorrow. Kudos to them for making a good call this early.
Tommy I measured about 7″ around 11am….i am in Hebron!
Meant to reply to you, but post is a further down…
Apparently Fayette County has closed schools Tuesday.
A related note, Harbor Freight is closed due to weather 🙁
http://weather.unisys.com/satellite/sat_wv_us_loop-12.html
lol about 15 to 18 inches depending on where you measure, ruler is long gone
That radar seems to be filling in rather quickly back up into IN and ILL all the way through to the lakes. Looks like Round 2 is gearing up for us!
Tommy…I love your exuberance! You are perfect little kid, even if you are 20!
Chris…you are just the best, and I have no doubt that we will see the additional amounts you have posted! Let Round 2 begin!!
Madison has also called off school for tomorrow
Just went outside and did some measurements. Hard to get a precise total with the drifts, but I think I’ve got an average of over 5 inches. north Lexington here
Unfortunately, it’s no longer snowing. Yet, I was surprised to even see that (for the short time it lasted). 🙁
The list above told that Irvine had 4.5 inches of snow. I don’t know where they measured that, but I had about 1 inch or a little more. Now it is snowing “big time” and the inches are adding up.
I see what your saying….does look like it’s pulling in some gulf moisture..wow!
I went outside with the ruler to measure the snow, and the ruler laughed at me.
where did you see this?
Where did you find that Fayette had already closed for tomorrow? I’m looking at all three TV websites for closings. Never know where to look first…
Tommy, it looks like you should have planted a yardstick instead of a ruler. 🙂
http://www.fcps.net/
kentucky.com
most of pike county is a bust, so i just dont see another 4 to 8 in pike
wkyt website has Fayette out tomorrow
OK, it just showed up on WLEX. How did you get it so early?
lexington herald . com says closed also for fayette
So is Mingo co Wv nothing on the ground a few flakes in the air every now and again.
Cool link. Thanks for sharing.
hey sue how are u doing? are you keeping warm?
snowflakes hage gotten bigger here suddenly
One of my kids told me, and they can feel the disturbance in the force.
Doing great and keeping warm. Hey did you get in trouble with your mom. lol
that getting FUNKY LIKE A MONKEY I PREDICTED is starting!!!!
Hey CB, in regards to your tweet, maybe LMK were off a decimal place by mistake? 😉 Meant 5.0″ and not 0.5″ 😉
We have 4 Inches here in Clay County!!
Aren’t you in masterson station area? Maybe it blew over from my backyard which has about an inch now after all the wind.
What’s that 2, 3 inches? 😉
Whoever reported the two inches for Paintsville is a liar. There is not even a dusting. Wonder how many other reports are false.
Not even enough to cover the grass here. I can take pics and prove it.
thats what she said ;D
its gathering moisture very evident it is, maybe cbs map that i assume crazy is right.. i dont know i hope its right1!!!!
Nah, tommy messed up and it is centimeters 😉
FCPS has a facebook site that is generally the first to post.
No mother was ok…lol Doing well here, have some steaks on, and just noticed i’m out of A1 sauce and we all know steak with out A1 sauce is not steak..lol So now i’m going have to run out in the cold down to to local supermarket for some sauce : (
Lexington is declaring a snow emergency. That means no parking is snow routes- or your car will be towed.
You predicted? Now come on Rolo, just a couple of days ago, you were saying this was going to be nothing at all, except for places up north.
Wel Harlan County has absolutely nothing but a very slight dusting on grassy surfaces right now. The upslope event will have to be the most impressive I have ever seen in order to meet expectations. In other news look at this long range GFS run…..blizzard?
http://wxcaster4.com/gfs/CONUS_2P5GFS_1000-500_SLPPRPTHK_360HR.gif
Thank you, Michael Scott!
HAH hah ha! That must be it. I live in Clark, so mine only feel a local disturbance.
no, im not in masterson station. im near exit 113 off I-75.
Clark is out too. Now I have to wait on SAA and LCHS to jump one way or the other. SMS messages have been strangely absent today. Didn’t get the ones for Fayette and Clark.
lol bubba , it aint hardly!!
Maybe the monkey moved:)
It is really coming down in Corbin right now but can’t tell if we are accumulating anything else…we have about 3 inches on the ground this evening…
can anybody tell me about the road conditions on BG? in Daviess County have to get to Scott County.
Bubba.. Old man winter smiling at the DOME! 😉
http://www.intellicast.com/National/Radar/Current.aspx?location=USKY0721&enlarge=true&animate=true
Okay folks there is some light at the end of the tunnel, just a few more weeks and it will be spring, but the really cold pattern should break soon, the really long range has some 60’s by the end of the month. I cannot wait.
Or blowing raspberries at it (or maybe at the Snow Miser)! 🙂
LOL!
http://www.freaksters.com/weather/oldmanwinter.gif
The end of this month or March? I’m not asking for hot weather just mild. Today has been very wintery and I have loved it. I do think Lexington will have to wait to get a large snow.
Jake
Why is eastern Ky the favorite spot for lake effect snows?? the mountains??
No there will be some warm days in March. Actually the long range has 60’s the first week of next month. March can have some wonderful warm days, but they are usually windy.
I measured in several places. Anywhere from 6 1/2 inches-7 inches at my place over by Fayette Mall. Still coming down.
yea, the mountains is exactly why KR.
Wow, you guys got about double what NW Lexington got.
Evening, all. tommy, you go all our snow! 😉 Seriously, here in Pulaski County and Somerset, we might have a couple of inches…grass is not even covered. Lots of blowing snow, too. It was snowing a little bit ago, and laying on the roads, but, ours is not going to amount to much…maybe we will have better luck on the next go round.
thanks Chris, for the update, and congrats to all you guys who DID get a decent snow, especially YOU, AKFABubba! Or are we back to BubbaG now? At least you can say bye bye snowdome! It moved farther south, say….near Pulaski County and Lake Cumberland…… 🙁
Ah…moderation….how I doth HATE thee…
Well just got done shoveling a neighbors driveway here in Bourbon County. As of 6:30 pm I was getting around 4 to 5 and of course more in the drifts.
County roads are terrible w/ the wind blown snow already on the ground.
So tired now , I was gonna fix some Spaghetti but think I will go to Subway or some place else. LAZY ME!!! 😉
We’re not far from that 6 or so in Gtown too.
I drove around Boyle County this afternoon and found that in general roads are dangerous. You can travel along on with clear roads then hit a drift slick as glass. I found most drivers do not take that into account.
Thoughts on next system http://stormtracker.yolasite.com/ but you will have to scroll down.
17 to 19 inches on my front lawn
So could we expect 3 inches tonight in Lexington?
1.7 to 1.9 inches, at BEST, on my front lawn in Somerset.
I don’t remember seeing a bigger bust than this in Pike Co.
There is absolutely no chance it snows 4-8 inches in Pike Co. over the next 48 hours.
Measurement at my house. 0 inches, not even a dusting.
It all seems to break up before it gets here every time.
Congrats to everybody on your snow. Pike Co. officially has nothing and won’t be getting anything. No idea why Chris is predicting another 4-8 here when we didn’t get anything to begin with.
Ah…moderation….how I doth HATE thee…
Just got home from Scott county here in Morehead,, once you get to Bath county it gets bad quick. It’s 20 degrees here and snowing hard, some of the worst driving conditions I have ever drove in.. Don’t let those Interstates fool you, even though they look clear, under those overpasses are so slick, and any place the wind blows across the road will be covered in snow… Did I mention that I love it!!!! Keep it coming !!!!
Joseph, if you got that much, you did better than we did at my house….but I was told by a co-worker that Oneida, TN got between 4-5 inches. don’t know how true it is. (they are 50 miles SOUTH of me).
BubbaG, the dome isn’t dead….it just moved south. Takin’ my lantern, and headin’ for the DARK side…..
oh ye of little faith….don’t give up yet!
Drove home from my office in downtown Lex about an hour ago. The roads are refreezing and have become very slick. Particularly true of downtown, with the exception of Main Street. Tomorrow morning is going to be UGLY.
I think we had a NO SHOW on the snow in Mingo wv and pike co ky
I have to give up. Everybody in the state got a nice snow except us, and we got NO snow.
I just think the air is too dry or something because even when it says it is snowing it isn’t reaching the ground.
Just frustrating when everybody across the state seemed to have gotten a big snow and we got 0.
Don’t forget, snow ratios may go up as high as 20 to 1.
A NO SHOW is right, the fact that Pike and this area has not even a dusting speaks volumes.
if it not snowing in PIKE COUNTY NOW then u guys have a bubble over ur heads.lol
Radar is showing that we are getting show but believe me there is not even a dusting on the ground. Maybe we will get some snow tonight.
Had a long post but went to moderation, do they post when they go to moderation?? I am not typing it again!!!
20 degrees here in Morehead, Snowing real HARD!!! Roads terrible I love it!!!
I live on the pike co line in mingo co wv and I just came from there and their is none. lol
It’s had me sort of confused all day. It says it is snowing but none of it is reaching the ground. Even a 1 inch prediction would be exaggerating at this point. We’ll be lucky to get a dusting out of this “WINTER STORM”
The radar is showing snow but not even a speck on the ground.
Well Pike County i’m sure has had their fair share and it won’t hurt to let BubbaG have some
Why not today Rolo?
Some stats from Lawrenceburg:
January: Avg. temp. 29, snowfall 8.65″
February: Avg. temp. 27, snowfall 9.50″
We had some snow in December too, but January and February have been VERY Wintry months so far. Somewhat amazing actually. My grandfather told me tonight that he hasn’t seen it like this since 1959-60.
There is nothing in Pikeville either its blowing around but nothing on the ground at all as of 725pm but thats okay I will donate mine to Bubba lol.
what is moderation?
SANDMAN
I’ve had that happen before too. You type out this LOOONNNG post and then u get that “moderation warning”……Such a pain! Best thing to do, if you have an unusually LONG post, is to copy it before submitting just to be safe. Then just paste and try again 🙂
OH FYI
HVAC guy came to check heat pump today. Get this, it’s the COMPRESSOR of all things! Major repair! So much for having the spring/fall maintenance come through for me. Didn’t help at all……Interestingly enough, in my owners manual, it states the limited warranty on the sealed compressor is ten years for my model, yet on Trane’s website, the pdf file says five years. Mine’s 5.5 years old. So rich!
Unusual… that sucks. Sorry!
Here in Floyd co. we had about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch snow earlier, but the sun came out and took it away. it is now 7:38pm, and it is snowing really light, and we barely have a dusting. I do not think we will end up with much, even though the radar is covered, and we are supposed to get the upslope flow. I might be wrong, hope I am and we get hammered.
Just drove from S LEX to Nicholasville, US 27 is terrible. Drifitng like crazy, and only going about 30-35mph. Snowing sideways too. Good night just to stay home and RELAX in front of the ‘ol fireplace! That wind sure is moving this snow around! God a drift in front of the house about a foot deep! Lex declared a level 1 snow emergency. Not sure about Nicholasville and other surrounding areas…
Boyle County- 22* Flurries/light snow

There’s 5 inches of snow in Masterson Station.
We have around 5 – 6 inches in Millville with snow drifts up to 10 inches…
Just drove from SW LEX to Nicholasville. US 27 is terrible. Drifting and still snowing. Traffic moving about 35mph at the most. Icy in many spots. That wind sure is kicking all this powder around. Stayin home the rest of the night. MarkLex, sorry about your heat pump…I had mine go out after 1 year (warranty covered it). Ours was a Rheem. We switched to Carrier. No probs so far…Electric bill went down too!
had an inch which kind of went away ground now recovered again thanks to snow showers.
Is that accum. or just a drift? I haven’t heard of anyone in KY getting 17+ inches of snow. WOW.

I’m also from Pike County, and it really is amazing that we aren’t getting anything.
I’m all for some snow so I hope it comes but I don’t think there is a chance. It isnt even flurrying here now even though the radar says it is snowing

I’m in Masterson and definitely have 5 inches of snow. I am measuring in a protected spot on my back patio.
Officially 4.9 so far in Lexington. That puts us across the 20 inch mark for the first time since the 1995-1996 season (31.4 inches in that season)
no thats the current snowcover, had about 9 b4 the storm began, drifts are about 3 feet in spots, EPIC!! 23 INCHES THIS MONTH AT MY HOUSE!!!
I just came from Prestonsburg about an hour ago and it was starting to snow. By the time I got to Highlands Regional, it was really coming down.
well i’m not talking about their fair share today i mean this winter 😉

lol wkrc in cincy
WOW IT IS FINALLY SNOWING IN MINGO CO WV ON THE PIKE CO BOARDER. WOOO HOOOO WE HAVE A DUSTING.
21.8″ recorded at CVG airport is an all-time record for the month of February for Cincinnati. And this month is barely over half done!
so anyone seen the gulf storm for this weekend? one of these are bound to bring ice.
Yeah, overriding precip can lead to that…that’s what we haven’t had this winter.
Today/tomorrow mark 7 years since the Lexington Ice Storm
Chris just updated the blog!
Oh yes, I remember it well. We wondered why somebody was shooting a gun all night long. It was the trees snapping. We woke up to find a huge tree less than three feet from our bedroom wall.
