Good Friday evening gang. I want to start off by saying thanks to each of you for all the hard work you guys have put into this blog over the past several days. The blog family continues to grow as I have noticed a lot of new people of late and we certainly want to make them feel welcome. Our numbers are though the roof and it’s all because of you. Thanks to each of you.
Snow showers are increasing this evening across much of the region as a weak disturbance passes through. This will lead to some local 1″ or 2″ amounts of fluffy snows. Track them here…
Temps are the other big concern as we hit the single digits this morning and stayed in the teens all day long. Get used to that as I think we do it again tomorrow. A few snow showers and flurries will be with us yet again.
Skies clear out Sunday morning allowing for temps to tank into the low single digits for some. Brrrrrr
Watch for a system to dump a light snowfall around here late Monday into Tuesday.
The southern branch of the jet stream is going to crank up again later next week leading to a big storm in the eastern half of the country. Stay tuned. ![]()
Take care.

Thanks Chris. You hit this snow right on the money. I don’t what next weekends storm is gonna bring Ky., but it’s gonna be fun tracking it. Think snow everyone.
good deal CB.
Still have a light snow here at East Point. I hope everyone is staying warm and checking on people and pets around them.
Another storm next week? I read the comments about one on the 18th.
All I know is that I don’t want ice or anything that prevents power outages.
Thank Chris! You’re the best. I read the blog every day but don’t comment much. But the light fluffy snow is so beautiful out there right now in Winchester I just had to let you and all the other guys on here know how much
you all are appreciated and how much I enjoy reading the blog.
Still snowing at the Capitol – downtown Frankfort. It’s BEAUTIFUL watching it in the lights shining on the dome.
Persistent light snow is still falling in S. LEX. Looks beautiful, but the roads have frozen back up without the sunlight and this light snow has made everything VERY SLICK. Everyone be careful out there!
Moderate snow in Lex. From looking at the GFS, next weekends storm could possibly, and I emphazize possibly, be an old schooler if everything falls into place. Could also be a cold rain, or an ice storm. Have to wait and see.
i say COLD RAIN for soutjern and eastern 3rd of ky IMO as of now.
FLOODING is what alot better be watching out for.
look like the energy tonite has hit the western half of state.
Here in Berea, the sky is clear….but its snowing (or something?!). It looks like tiny pieces of glitter falling from the sky, I told my little ones “It must be angel dust”!
I am afraid next weeks storm will bring ice to allot of people. I sure hope not but it sure has the potential.
I’m hoping for a completely busted forecast and a long stretch of some rare but great 70 degree January days.
Still snowing in Lexington.
Let the flip-flopping begin.
It’s been snowing awhile here just north of Hazard. I still don’t have any water. I’m ready for warmer temperatures.
monday night clipper picking up on the nam with .1-.25 qpf.
How much snow is that Mitch?
I have been checking the radar periodically today and according to the radar Jessamine County should not be getting any snow…yet it has snowed and flurried all afternoon and into the evening. Weird!
Keep me posted on next week’s potential, everyone…looking at some travel on the 16th and getting concerned…
nam would be 1-2 inches southeast and gfs would be closer to an inch.
1/2 inch new snow tonight in versailles.
Just made the trip from Berea to Lexington – I-75 was mostly clear. Harrodsburg Road is starting to get covered & slick in spots. I’m doing pics for a wedding tomorrow so if y’all hear about a newlywed couple getting hypothermia on their wedding day you’ll know it was me trying to get the perfect shot in the snow!
Exactly, here in Wilmore, we have had a steady snow for the last 2-3 hours, and have picked up close to 1″ of new snow! If the radar to the north is any indication, this looks to keep going for the better part of the night (I hope).
Mitch have the long range models ever been in lockstep with a storm track like these?

COULD WE GET A LOW TO PASS BY NEXT WEEK
AND DRIVE COLD AIR IN HERE AND THEN THE
LOW CUT OFF AND PRODUCE BACKLASH FOR A
GOOD PERIOD OF TIME?!!!!!
don’t like that solution for a cutoff into the lower ohio valley based on the 500 mb set-up but if that were to occur it would be an ugly mix here.
wondering where the special weather statements are these snow showers should not be underestimated roads covered here in versailles as well.
yeah I know even here in southern ky, been snowing all evening with another good 1/2″ or so of new snow tonight and roads are snow covered yet again, I think they let the wwa expire a tad bit on the early side for the I-75 counties…
snow/sleet forecasted for TAMPA to DAYTONA BEACH florida …with a dusting of snow not out of the question in spots!!!!!
Mitch is Morgan co going to get any of this snow tonight?
Hey all,
Glad to see some decent snow! To clarify, if anyone wants to know..that little snow falling down is called “diamond dust.” And, boy, does it resemble diamonds…that stuff sparkles and shows off all kinds of colors!
Have a good weekend everyone. 🙂
