Good evening gang. The arctic front is pushing out of bluegrass country into the eastern half of Kentucky. An increasing band of snow is developing along and ahead of this front. It will lay down another inch or two in some areas. Winds will crank as well creating near whiteout conditions at times.
You can see this band of snow here…
Snow showers and flurries will fill in behind the front overnight. I think the best shot at putting down a few more inches of snow will come Friday into Friday night. It could actually get pretty nasty out as our snow ratios will be off the chart!!!
The other part of our storm is the cold and wind combo. Winds are kicking up as the front goes through as gusts reach 20-30mph creating blowing and drifting snow. Travel tonight will be dangerous!!
The temp drop is rather dramatic as well and you can follow that here…
Wind Chills
Those wind chill readings will go as low as -10 overnight into early Friday. Actual air temps in the single digits are likely with temps Friday staying in the teens and low 20s for highs.
I will have another update later so check back. Take care.

Thanks for the update Chris. There is no snow on the radar and it is snowing extremely hard in Lexington. We got our snow this afternoon.
Thanks Chris for the update!
We already have a solid 2-3 inches here in the Elkhorn City area of Pike County. It is not a light fluffy snow either, it is a good wet snow.
Congrats to ALL the Mets. out there…
You guys nailed this storm very well..!
Oh yeah, Chris, don’t know if you heard the news, but WTVQ is looking for a Chief Meteorologist… 😉 😉
…
What does Chris mean by the comment about Friday and Friday night “snow ratios will be off the charts?”
Still got less than half an inch here Vinny
the Drifting has begun
Thanks for the update, Chris!
Light snow still falling here in EB, with approx 1.5″ on the ground, 2″ in a few spots.
I’m looking forward to seeing what tomorrow brings.. 😉
That’s what she said…
please go to bed child…
Stop using peoples names, and grow up..

1 inch of water (rain) would normally equal about 10 in of snow, a 10:1 ratio. When it is dry and cold, the ratios can be much higher, 20:1 or quite a bit more, so you get more snow for the same amount of moisture. So they’re thinking the ratios could be really high.
We have over 4 inches here, it has slowed to flurries right now, waiting on the next snow band.
I snorted when I read this! Funniest thing ever said on the blog. Side note – anybody watching championship game? I think that was the worst version of the nathional anthem since Rosanne Barr!
Around 2″ in Trapp Ky wind starting to pick up a little. Maybe it will blow it off my driveway. LOL Also curious as to what Chris is talking about for Friday night. He is hinting about something for someone.
Blowing hard at Clay’s Ferry and the temp is dropping. The house is making strange popping and vibrating noises-hope we don’t end up in Kansas! Then again, they have been having SNOW. At this rate and with the cold and wind combo there are going to be many schools closed on Monday. Late next week is looking almost balmy right now.
thanks for the reply
Drifting? With this stuff we may not be in school on Monday—Wonder how things are in town and down on the river by Hall’s.
LOL! OMG Vinny.. you didn’t go there!!
“Toto, I have the feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”
Sorry, just had to do it… 😉
You are welcome. So that made sense? Cool.
But for such a cold night one little dog just won’t do! Maybe Auntie Em will make us hot chocolate, or better, a hot toddy!
At least it’s not “Up”
Yes,Chris please tell us more about the snow totals for tomorrow! My Street is covered here in here in Lexington. I think we have about 4 inches. Wind is making drifts in places. Blowing like crazy off of the rooftops!
Didn’t seem to bad when I left town around 5 but I am sure it will change allot by morning.
You should be getting more through out the night if the forcasts are correct. With the blowing it will be interesting in the morning for the ride to work!
ok a good 1″ here around Barbourville, ROADS ARE HORRIBLE IN SPOTS, I went to pick up my daughter at her nanny’s and slid off the road…very icy and slick, then temps. CRASHED!!! went from 30 to 23 in about 10 mins. and windy, snow blowing around here in town like a mini ground blizzard…lol..
I know where this comment come from. Is some of my ole strip mining buddies gettin bored?
It will be interesting may be a little late I will not be driving until daylight. I wonder what Chris is talking about for tomorrow night.
http://www.freaksters.com anyone ??? im over there..
Snowing steadily here at East Point…anyone from Floyd on here? I’m right next door.
Just wondering how much snow you have and if it is still snowing.
I forgot to mention it earlier, but LEX. webcam of downtown HIT THE BIG TIME TODAY…yep, they showed it on the weather channel today, I about passed out…lol..
My wx station is spot on because I have -3 for a wind chill temp. Also got 3″ of snow so our forecasts were great with this storm.
I’m about 5 miles NW of Prestonsburg rhonda. I have around 3 inches right now and it’s still coming down. Winds are howling as well.
This is why they should always cancel school for little snow or big snow.
4 dead, 6 injured when tanker and special needs school van collide
I totally agree Bernie most schools around central KY made a great call today. Early it didn’t seem like it but all Meteorologist did an outstanding job on keeping us informed of the system.
You are SO CORRECT. Some people don’t understand that weather should dictate how they drive.
The only part of my drive home from work that was easy was on my street (all snow), the rest of the roads were not a nice place to be.
If ANYONE is thinking about going out later, DO NOT DO IT.
Bernie you are so right I’m all for edcation but when there is snow on the roads no matter how little our kids should not be on the roads…..
Somewhere I heard that there was another front coming in at the first of the week. Or is that wishful thinking?
Be careful in the morning.
Thanks, Justin. It’s still snowing here, too, but not a lot.
The roads are bad, everyone please be careful.
Down to 10 windy degrees and dropping here in Wilmore – got around 4″ or so, hoping for more tomorrow! There is a lot of drifting going on, and some roads are half covered by drifts, and all are snow-packed.
3.3 in in versailles (avg of about 12 measurements) side roads are still snow covered out there and very slick went to my uncle’s for the bcs game and even with 4 wheel drive could only go about 10 mph without starting to slide around a little.
You guys are cool and rock, but anyone that even thinks they can give a snow total is nuts 😉
In fact, I retract my 4″ snow statement, since I have no clue. Too much snow cume deviation just in my front yard and driveway.
Too much spread for me to even use 12 points. most of front yard has blown away to an inch or two and the rest is drift to zero in the drive. Crazy dry snow out there. Feels like plastic when it hits the face with the wind. Dogs officially do not like it. Especially my chihuahua, Flower.
wouldn’t take much for an improvement there. chris would take the station from worst to first, or a tie with TG.
I turned the Christmas lights on (yes they are still up). I felt a little festive after it snowed.
Northern Madison County – no clue how much snow there is out there.
