Good Wednesday to one and all and welcome to the middle of the work week. Is it me or is September flying by? It’s hard to believe we are almost into October and the heart of the fall colors season. The pattern we are in says we are already into October as another prolonged stretch of cool and sometimes damp weather is ahead of us.
Today will see occasional showers taking over across much of central and eastern Kentucky with some scattered stuff in the west. Some rumbles of thunder will also be possible into this evening and some locally heavy downpours will be common. Your radars below will help you track the drops.
These rains are along of another cold front sweeping across the region. The front will usher in much cooler air for later tonight into Thursday across the central and west. This boundary will put the brakes on allowing for a wave of low pressure to ride to the northeast along it. This will cause a few showers for Thursday with a much better concentration of rains moving in for Friday.
High temps for Friday will likely struggle into the low and mid 60s for many. It is into Friday that our big upper level low really begins to do its thing across the Ohio Valley as it closes off. This is likely to sit on top of us from late week into the weekend and into the first half of next week. This will be the closed low from… ummm… you get the idea. ![]()
Look at the 500mb height anomaly from the European Model…
That really shows you just how slow moving a system we will be dealing with all the way into next week. Here is what it may bring…
– A lot of clouds and off and on showers.
– The best threat for widespread rains over the next week looks to be today, Friday and then again late Sunday into Monday and Tuesday.
– The early next week stuff will need to be watched as there is a fairly strong spoke of energy being forecast to round the base of this closed low during this time. That can really crank up some rains for someone.
– Temps through the period will run well below normal with most days seeing 60s for highs with the threat for a rainy day to see some highs in the 50s.
Back to the rains of today and your tracking tools…

Have a great Wednesday and watch for updates. Take care.
