Good afternoon everyone. Your friendly weatherdude is just dropping by for a quick GO BIG BLUE shout out before today’s smackdown of our little brother. 
In terms of weather… snow showers and flurries continue into tonight with lows in the upper single digits and wind chills going below zero. Upper teens will be with us again for highs Sunday with more snow showers. Local accumulations will continue in the heaviest snow showers… especially in the east.
Monday through Wednesday will see a good northwesterly flow really set in and this will lead to, at least, a couple rounds of accumulating snows. Arctic air remains.
Thursday and Friday of next week will see one heck of an arctic wave of low pressure moving through here. Look for this system to grow stronger on the models in the coming days and this has a great shot of putting down a few to several inches of wind whipped snow for much of this region! The European Model is now seeing this stronger wave…

In this case… you WANT that low to be right on us and the model is showing just that from later Thursday into Friday!

I like the EURO much better, as it gives us a better chance for snow. You would think that with the arctic air already in place, we’d at least have a shot at seeing some accumulating snow. I guess we will wait and see…
On the game…both teams need to settle down, but even more than that, someone needs to shoot Tony Greene, and Doug Shaw in the butt with a pea shooter! Neither one of them are worth theri weight in Jolly ranchers as referees…they actually think everyone came to see THEM. Thank goodness John Cal(or Kal) is out there, and he IS a good official. either way, it’s been ugly. Hope the CATS come out with fire in the second half, because you KNOW UL is not gonna be that bad for the whole game!

I like loserville the best myself. if the 18z gfs verifes with the high snow ratios around 20:1 6-10 inches of snow could fall.
Be nice to see some of the darkest green on the GFS to move up into Ky.
I think it will phase into Ky if 18z pans.. thats a 8 hr delay (NE travel) to the next run. Like Mitch mentioned, 15:1 to 20:1 ratio .25 qpf is like 7″ of snow, its showing as much as .50-.75 qpf. It may even go up with our tradition westerly trend. 😉

Today’s win was far from a “lucky” one. UK is one of the best teams out there right now. You can quote me when I say this… UK *will* be in the Final Four and it’s a good likelihood they’ll be playing in the championship game. The only team I foresee being a true challenge for UK at this point is Kansas.

There’s no “YOU” in this equation where I’m concerned. As I stated in my previous post, I’m a UNC fan. My team already took a beating at Rupp this year, if you remember (I’m sure my UK fan-friends will remember…lol). But aside from being a UNC fan, I am also a true fan of college basketball. That allows me to push the blinders aside and see talent where it truly lies year-in and year-out. UK is not a perfect team, but they ARE one of the best teams right now. I stand firm on my position that UK will be in the Final Four and competing for the championship. You’d be hard-pressed to find many teams that could keep up with UK. Of course, we’ll all see how it works out in just a few short months…
Dont mistake my level of enthusiasm for talent and fantastic basketball skills with me being a UK fan. That honor belongs to a number of folks in this state.

When I lived in Louisville I found that there where probably more UK fans there than U of L fans. U of L is a local team (and they don’t have all of their own townies on their side), UK is a state and / or national team.
Louisville has always related more with Indiana than with Ky anyway! So if you want to be a Hoosier so be it! By the way the origin of the word Hooiser….. “the word’s origin is that when Indiana’s first settlers responded to a knock on their cabin door they would say “Who’s yere?” And from that Indiana became the “Who’s yere State” or “Hoosier State.” That sounds more “hillbilly” than anyone here!
There’s one thing you actually have right. Books ARE fun to read. You might want to try that sometime. Try learning about basketball (not just about Louiville), and while you’re at it, a book about etiquette wouldn’t hurt you either. Pointing out others’ spelling errors…classy!!

It’s just my opinion, but if I wanna see childish debate about a college basketall game, I will find a sports blog. Yes, UK ball is discussed on here an length at times, but I’ve never seem it rise to this level of ridiculous. I came on here, again, to see thoughts on next week’s potential storm. as a VERY unhappy snow weenie who was forced to miss yet another lake effect event, i must say this system looks promising. the way things are looking is excellent for lex area and really all of ky for that matter but if worse comes to worse which it usually does with these i shouldn’t have more than a 100 mile drive or so to a whopper of a snow band…assuming my job doesnt get in the way AGAIN

Grow up? Kentucky basketball is the only thing we got left in this state. Everything is has been taken out. So dont tell me to grow up because i defend and honor my kentucky basketball team with pride.
Whatever, that’s the problem with *some* UK fans, they think the only thing this state offers is UK basketball. And don’t bash me and tell me where to go, I’ve lived here all of my 39 years and love this place dearly.

Glad to hear that TeacherNate! I will probably get jumped on too, but I have to say this. As far as Pitino goes, if I were to run into him, I would thank him for what he did for the University of Kentucky, and it’s basketball program. He rebuilt it, in short order when noone else would take the job. As for his personal failures, that is between him and the Lord. It is not for me to judge.
Now, as far as UL basketball, I have no beef with them, as long as they are not playing UK.
Pitino has been gone from here for more than 10 years. Can we not just move on?

Well, we here in Pikeville were supposed to get the blunt end of it, and it is right over top of us on radar, and we haven’t seen the first of it.
